Is there anything wrong with using steel shot in my Mossberg 500(18.5 cyl. bore)?
Nothing wrong with using steel shot as long as you aren't using it for defense. It's "for the birds", literally!
Yeah, the gun will handle it fine, but steel is meant for waterfowl hunting and other situations that call for non toxic shot. It's ballistically inferior to lead, and it's not made in sizes suitable for self defense anyhow.
Won't hurt the gun, but save it for the ducks. If for hunting you might consider a longer gun.
