i looked at the Winchester data site for a safe starting load for 9mm - Precision Delta 124gr JHP & Winchester 231 using once fired mixed brass & Winchester small pistol primers.. but could not find any info...

anyone have some data they care to share including OAL ?

    thanks in advance..

Speer #14 doesn't show W231 nor does the Hodgdon web site. Hornady doesn't show anything either.

Lyman 49th shows for a 125 gr JHP 3.9 gr min at 960 fps and 4.4 gr max at 1043 fps. OAL 1.075".

    http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html

Handloads.org has a load for a 124 gr FMJ at 4.5 gr with a recommendation to start at 4.1 gr (no OAL given):

    http://www.handloads.org/loaddata/d...m&Weight=124&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=

Apparently, W231 isn't popular for the 124 gr JHP. There are probably better powders with more plentiful data.

Usual Warning: Do not trust the typing of an old man with failing eyesight!

Start low and work up slowly. Only 0.5 gr separates MIN from MAX.

Speer #14 does show a starting load of 4.0gr. of W231 with a max of 4.5gr 231 with their 124gr Gold dot HP and 124gr. RN with a COL. of 1.120" for the Gold Dot.

As always start low and work up slowly and remember that COL is gun and bullet specific. I would load the PD to the longest col that will fit in your magazine and still function thru you action without hitting your barrels rifling.

Pull your barrel out and use it as a case gauge. Your finished cartridge should drop in flush with your barrels chamber without hitting the rifleling.

    Good Luck.

whinchester site shows data for 125 grain. That is close enough for reloading, this isn't rocket science.

    125 GR. LCN 231 .356" 1.125" 3.9 1009 25,700 CUP 4.4 1086 31,200 CUP

You do have reloading manuals right? Many noobs think they can get by w/ powder manuf data, IMO, that is just short sighted.

Speer # 14 gdhp w231 start 4.0 to 4.5 max. col 1.120 I'm loading precision delta fmjrn, hp38 same as w231 @ 4.1 for now, col 1.125-1.130 works good in my g19 works great in the new to me shield I (wife) picked up yesterday. As Fred says get manuals more than one read, read and read again, start low and work your way up .01gr. at a time and never go above max.

The Winchester loading data manual I have (1999) says 4.2 minimum, 4.5 maximum. It assumes the standard SAMMI dimension for OAL. I use 1.115.

I use WIN 231 for loading 124gr Montana Gold JHPs. 4.2 grains shoots nice and soft and functions in all of my 9MMs. Extremely accurate in my CZ...

I load the MG 124gr JHPs to 1.1, but the bullet profile might be different from what you are using. [IMG]
