    I have a chance to go spring bear hunting in Canada. Need help on rifle selection;
    caliber?
    optics?
    manufacture recommendations?
    Hunting will be from a ground blind. According to guide, shots will be in the 50 to 75 yard range.
    I have a 20 year old winchester model 70 in 30 06 with Leupold scope. It has the adjustable weight on the muzzle that was supposed to help accuracy but I disliked it so much at the range, I've never used it for actual hunting.
    Thoughts?

    200 grain round tip bonded/partitioned, or 200 grain FMJ.

    Shoot a fair bit getting ready, it'd be a lousy time to miss.

    Your 30-06 is perfect - so would any other caliber you would use for deer (243 to 7mm mag).

    Just making sure (hey, it's Canada).

    Your '06 with darn near any 180 grain soft point should anchor one if you do your part.

    There's an old saying, If you don't know what rifle to use, get a .30-06 and some 180 grain bullets, and sight it in with a battlefield zero (50/200 yards). What that won't kill, you didn't want dead anyway.

    As a former guide of 2 1/2 decades. Your '06 is fine my friend. Use a 180gr bullet, (SUGGESTION). You will be fine.......

    Have fun
    Good hunting.
