Sometimes the field of EMS is great... you get to help people, you get to save people's lives, sometimes they are even very appreciative of us.

However, sometimes it really sucks.... This morning we got called out at 0500 for a mva on a major interstate. It got put out as a car vs TT with possible ejection. Turns out a pickup truck hit a TT then went into a ditch and the driver got out and was very disoriented. She ran out into the middle of the highway and got hit by another TT. It was not a pretty thing to wake up to. There was some speculation that a baby was in the car with her, but a search of the area proved otherwise. It just breaks your heart sometimes when you see stuff like this.

Hang in there brother. If you've been doing this for awhile you know that sometimes we can save the day, sometimes all we deal with for days is B.S., and sometimes we see the worst most horrible things and there isn't a damn thing we can do to help. Like you said, it's all part of the job, and we've all been there. For what it's worth here's the best 2 pieces of advice I can possibly offer:

    1) If this is messing with your head talk to somebody. Don't try to carry the burden alone. Talk to a trusted partner, supervisor, request formal CISD, something. Just don't keep it locked up inside.

    2) Go home and hug your kids, wife, girlfriend, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, sister, brother, friend, dog, cat, whoever - 'cause at the end of the day that's all that matters. Go home safe and love the ones who love you.

    Take Care and God Bless!
