  1. Some Vets Misled on MGIB-SR

    Week of February 05, 2007

According to NAVPA, some citizen soldiers returning to college after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are being told that they lose their eligibility for continued GI Bill benefits if they stop drilling with the Guard or Reserve. NAVPA has discovered that is not true, and in fact Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP) recipients can revert back to the original Reserve GI Bill - known as MGIB-SR - upon discharge from paid drill status. This means they can then use their remaining MGIB-SR entitlement for the number of months they were activated plus four more months. In addition he discovered that multiple periods of activation could be added together to further increase this extension. For more information, read the NAVPA Press Release.
