Gunnison River (and a train)
end of day
This is nice! I seriously have to come over the pond and hunt in the US.. this landscape is breathtaking!
that's one of the cool things about the American West, that picture with the deserted canyon and the train is less than 2 miles (as a crow flies) from the nearest shopping center and maybe 3.5 from downtown. I can be in over 1/2 million acres of national forest in under 25 miles, it is nice.
Good way to spend a day!
Great pictures, GJK5. I've floated through those parts of the Gunnison River along Orchard Mesa. Congratulations on the fowl. I've liked eating Canada Goose and Mallard but have little experience hunting waterfowl. Common Mergansers are great birds but have heard that they're not very good eating (probably because of the food they consume as divers). What's your impression?
Have heard the same thing, and from the stink they left on my hands after filleting I don't doubt it. We shall see.
Do you eat the Merganser? I heard that their flavor isn't the best.
Life's too short to not live in Colorado.
Congrats on a good day of hunting...
have not cooked it yet, I have heard that too and we will see....
come out here Steve! I have been lucking into some great private land stuff lately.
I'm surprised the dog would retrive one of those stinky things. Mine scoffs at me if I shoot anything other than a mallard or a teal.
The geese on the other hand, grind em up, add some jalapenos and make em into hamburger patties.
I was surprised to see that people shoot those feathered fish much less pose with them.
hey, cut me some slack! My first time hunting waterfowl in like 18 years and first time in CO ever.
It doesn't matter what some anonymous yahoo on the internet says. If you had fun pursuing those birds then it was time well spent.
