I really like my Asus eee, but I think the SSD is limited. Its a bit slower than a normal hard drive, and as I used it more, I found it seemed to effect performance a bit. Solid State Drives are an awesome idea, but I'm not entirely sold on it yet, although I'm sure its only a matter of time.... So I sold the eee, and bought me an Acer Aspire One, w/ a 160gig SATA hard drive on Ebay. Seller says it was only a month old, included all documentation, etc. I got it for $315, plus $15 shipping/insurance. On retail sites, I found similar spec'd ones for $379-$429, so I feel pretty good about the price. It has XP installed, which I'll almost definitely nuke. From what I've read, the AAO's have either an atheros wireless device, or a broadcomm wireless device. If its Atheros, I may not even boot Windows, and just start the install process for some version of Linux.. probably Ubuntu. If its Broadcomm, I'll probably suffer w/ XP for a bit, until Broadcomm's Linux support is a little better. IGF Wanna kill these ads? We can help!
