Where I work all the bathrooms have:

    - Urinals that flush automatically - no manual over-ride
    - Toilets that flush automatically - no manual over-ride
    - Sinks that turn on automatically - no manual over-ride
    - Soap dispensers that dispense automatically - no manual over-ride
    - Paper towel dispensers that dispense automatically - no manual over-ride

So if we had a power failure, we couldn't pee, poop, wash hands, dry hands, wipe up a spill or get a drink of water . .

Thankfully the TP dispenser is still low tech. . .

Glad I keep water and sanitary supplies in my get home bag!

Just look at the bright side--when the power goes out at work they have to let everyone go home!

If not for all the greedy bastages who use:

125 sheets of TP to wipe a popcorn fart...
17 gallons of water to rinse their hands...
287 linear ft. of paper towels every time they need to blow their nose...
And last but not least....3 quarts of soap to coat the sink area because they're too retarded to figure out how the soap dispenses...

We wouldn't need this kind of cost-savings technology.

And who the heck flushes a urinal?

You forgot lights that turn on when you go in...

I was just thinking of starting a thread like this which would have began I remember when I used to turn on my own light, flush my own toliet, dispense my own soap...etc

    Man I feel old.
  6. So you're the guy who takes a leak right before I do.

You don't pee in the swimming pool, do you? ;)

I think if we had a major power failure that lasted a long time, smart phone users of the younger generation would commit suicide. Because they could not communicate verbally to get by.

Ironically, this isn't far from the truth.

A local small college puts out a list every year titled something like "The Graduating class of x has..."

This list always contains some iconic things some sad some funny.

For example, I think a list a ten years ago said this graduating class has never used a rotary phone or The Simpsons have always been on T.V, etc. You get the point.

    Last year's class: 9 in 10 couldn't write cursive.

While not verbal communication; the English language has taken a severe beating lately

Most (all) of those items are battery powered, so they would work for a short-term outage.

I'm finally back up and running.

Our local provider had an outage which strangely combined with my modem crapping out on me. I spent a few hours on line with tech support thinking me not getting on line was somehow connected to the outage.

The modem failed after 7-8 years so I'm not that concerned.

I know I surf a lot; I know I depend on the web alot and although it wasn't a shock how much I do on line if the web failed tomorrow permanently it would take me a LONG time to adjust.

I work from home several days a have to make the 50 mile one way commute...more money in the gas tank...more wear and tear on my car, etc.

Can't transfer money on Glocktalk? Booking our anniversary hotel was more of a pain, couldn't check out redbox...etc.

On the upside: I did a lot of cleaning I've been putting off...

This reminds me of something that happened recently at work. They went to motion detecting switches in the bathrooms. Someone was telling us how he was in a stall when it timed out and shutoff. I don't know if they ever adjusted the time on there, but I'm sure it uses more energy to be constantly off and on then just staying constant on since fluorescent lights require a bit more juice on startup.

While not verbal communication???? I seen for myself a group of 6 college kids all sitting together at a table all of which were pounding away at their phones keyboard. Not one of them said a word to each other. I was in total shock!

I remember when we had an ice storm several years ago. People were going crazy without their technology 'fix'. We were without power for days. I found it relaxing

We had heat, food, water, etc. I set up the room with the fireplace so that we had the largest room in the house very warm. I had propane for cooking outside, which was right on the deck. We played cards, played boardgames, read books, went outside to play for brief periods (very cold), and did just fine.

Ok, how do you unclog an auto-flush toilet? Low crawl up to it to plunge? The thing will be flushing continuosly as you plunge.....?

Every toilet will flush if you dump a bucket of water into it.
What good would a manual override on a sink do if the power goes out.
Keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer and baby wipes handy works in Afghanistan and it would work for you in that scenario.
