ok i dont own one i have shot some , but while going to a few dealers and gun shows , ive heard alot of bad things on SIGS , ive heard in the last 2 years quality has gone down bad ?? an one know ??

and i know alot of folks complaining how ugly the new styles are with the cheesy diamond plated guns ,which to me are fugly .

    any insights ?

Only Sig I've owned was a P229 E2 bought about 2 years ago. Best gun I ever had in terms of quality and flawless performance. If the pistol had been 5 ounces lighter with a non-short reset trigger I'd not only still have it but it would probably be my full time carry.

They get better with the years. My new U.S. made 226 is finer finished and shooting than the old west german 1990 226 shot side by side. . Class well made Sig Sauer.
  4. Gun shop gossip never ceases to amaze me. Sig makes a solid product. Every company has ups and downs. Even Glock's Gen 4 had a few hiccups as it came to market, IIRC.

Sig's core line, the P226 and P229 have suffered from diamond plate, titanium rainbows and other aesthetic abominations, but the basic guns still run well. Sig appears to be phasing out the "special editions" like the diamond plate and the Gadsden Flag and going to more practical styles and finishes recently.

I have a few and all of mine have been very dependable. I carry a P229 and shoot a P226 in IDPA. Looking forward to buying a 938 soon for discreet carry as well. I've never bought into the idea that German made Sigs were better either. I own both US made and German made and see no appreciable difference in how they shoot or carry.

My only complaint with Sig has been their finish on the controls. My mag releases have sprouted rust from time to time, but I live in the South. The price is a little more involved maintenance routine than the Glock, but to me it's worth it for the ergonomics of the Sig platform.
  5. My department issued me an older Sig 229 in 40 S&W. My guess is the gun is 15 to 20 years old and it has been flawless in the ten years I have shot and carried it. My Department owns about 50 of the Sigs, some newer than others. To my knowledge, noone in my department has had a major malfunction. Springs do break or ware out, but the guns still work.

I realize your question was in regards to the newer models, but as for the older one they are rock solid, IMO. Get a used one. OR buy a Glock.

I think Sig makes some of the best pistols i've fired to date. One trend i've seen over the years are the fads in the gun world. Gun shop employees near me are constantly changing their gear out, man you gotta sell your sig its too heavy and doesn't carry as many rounds as glock. Then next month its man im going 1911, glocks aren't accurate enough for me. Then a month later man 1911's are too much maintenance, im going Sig and so on, also don't get me started on AR's. So depending on what time of year you might get a different opinion of a gun maker. Rest assured you can buy Sig with confidence.

    I have a Sig P220 Carry - 2 years old.

Fantastic gun that has been flawless since day 1. It used to be my primary carry until my most recent purchase. I still carry it depending on weather and how I am dressed

I think that I hear/read more complaints from the rumor than from people having problems with actual guns that they own.

I think Sig still makes a top quality product. It's a good thing they do because their customer service is the pits.

I've owned, or had issued to me, the following SIGs.

    1. Two P226s 9mm
    2. One P228 9mm
    3. Two P239's 9mm
    4. P229 .40
    5. P220 .45

Everyone of them was a flawless performer. Both P226's were West German models and had the best trigger pulls, but all were great guns.
  14. Just stay away from their 22lr Mosquito toygun made of pot metal.
Can't say anything bad about 9mm SIG P226 - good, reliable, could be my EDC gun.
About mags: I would buy aftermarket MecGar mags made for Sig, so I get better quality for a half $.

All these claims are from my own experience, not hearsay.

The bad rap on Sig tells you way more about the poor quality of the people who are badmouthing an excellent product. Remember who they are and trust none of their feedback about guns.

100% reliable with all types of HP ammo.
And rather accurate with Winchester Ranger T-Series 230 gr.

P229 Enhanced Elite flawless, not one single malfunction of any kind, great trigger, accurate and I occasionally carry it IWB with a hybrid holster and the weight isnt too bad. Just between my Glock 19 and Dan Wesson 1911!

There is NO product made today that hasn't gone down in quality. That includes Glocks (obviously), Sigs, etc.

I just replaced a 20-yr-old stove that died. The new G.E. was $1,500.00. After less than one year, it needed a $200.00 repair.
