I won a random draw G17 at Griffin this year. I want to upgrade the sights, to almost anything other than factory plastic sights. There are lots of sights out there. This is almost exclusively for GSSF. I'd like to hear some recommendations for affordable sights, along with why you settled on them. I'm open minded to fiber optic or steel. I reload 115 grain cast and plated bullets at average speeds.

It's hard to beat a set of plain black target sights. I've used the Heinies but prefer the Ameriglo Target set. See www.ameriglo.net

If you like a wider rear notch, look at the Ameriglo Combat plain black set.

You can get them with FO or plain front sights...

After trying different sight. Just about every one that has been mentioned here so far and a couple more. I have settled on Dawson fiber optic front and rear. I use green front fiber optic sight and red fiber optic rear adjustable sight.

Nice: Heinie's minus the little rear 'dot' - distracting.

edit" I'll add my vote for the warren/sevigny comp sight set as well - f.o. front and plain black rear.

And even tritium front sight (night sight).

I love the Warren Sevignys, have them on all 3 of my competition guns. I prefer the all black front and rear.

I have a Warren Tactical rear sight with a Dawson Precision Fiber Optic front sight.
I love the curved U notch rear with the narrow FO front.

After I ordered them I found out Ameriglo has a very similar sight set for a much lower price, which I'll probably try on my next Glock.

According to Rick at Ameriglo these would be the part numbers:
"We have item GL-406PRA. It is plain black with a rounded u notch. It has a wide .180" notch and will shoot POI POA with our fiber front sight, item GF-165-130R (red, .130" wide)"

The Warren Tactical / Dawson Precision combo is a little smaller rear sight notch and smaller front post, but the ratio ends up about the same.
A google search of "warren tactical dawson combo" should bring back some photos of this combo from the XD forums.

WAG but I'd say all the recommendations you've got is what works for the shooter who posted, or maybe the only sights they tried. Best thing to do is try them all and see what you like and not what someone else likes. If you don't want to get off the jack it should be too hard to look over some other shooters guns at a match. As for me for some reason I don't like adjustable sights on a Glock. I use a fixed Heinie rear filed to around .175" and a .090 plain AmeriGlo front. I don't like FOs on a GSSF or Action Pistol gun, but use them for run and gun stuff.

That's a super wide back and a narrow front it seems - I'd like to take a look at that some day if we ever attend the same match:whistling:

Their lawyer told my lawyer they didn't mind me shopping at Kroger or even carrying my gun while shopping at Kroger, but if they catch me testing my hollow points on just one more frozen turkey while still in the store.... :animlol:

I love that little point at the top of the pyramid. That is where the bullet impacts. In my opinion, the ability to take a fine sight is very important when hunting.

Danny, have you tried your pyramid?

i've pretty much retired from GSSF, but plan on shooting Marietta, Brighton, and Mobile matches thsi year. I have a lot of problems seeing my sights and shooting with any degree of accuracey and this is what has proven to work for me. Not saying it the best but I've spent a lot of money on sights just to find out I don't like them.

Mike says I just got lucky and he was having a bad day and first match jitters.
