I'm thinking about buying another Sig, this morning at the gun show. Have some questions about the Sig Sauer SP2022 in .40 cal.

My first question, are all Sig Sauer SP2022, even those in .40 cal, made in Germany?

If not, how can you tell the difference between those made in Garmany, and those that are not?

My second question, I heard of QC issues with those models that were made, prior to them being first discontinued. Since the Sig SP2022 has been made available agian, they have been flawless, how can I tell that the SP2022 I'm buying is the newer models made after they were originally discontinued, is their a certain serial number to look for?

Very good questions. I have shot a 2340 in 375sig and own a SP2022 in 9mm. Both had excellent triggers and shot as good as the "Classic" series. My SP2022 was made in Germany.

My Sp2022 slide is Ilaflon coated, whereas the 2340 is Nitron coated-if that matters any.

    Great and under-rated gun IMO.

Really? That's saying something from a guy who seems to be underwhelmed by most polymer guns!

I have one in 9mm and one in .40S&W. I like them both.

I had a 2022 and it has one of the worst grips on it for someone with sissy hands such as myself. That is the only downfall of the handgun to me was the poorly thought out ergonomics. It had an awesome trigger, very accurate, and at a great price. It is a great bang for the buck if you want a SA/DA polymer handgun. The trigger was far superior the USPc 9mm. I had. I felt it was far superior to the poorly thought out handgun that replaced it as well.

Early ones had no slide rails.

It will say on the gun "made in Germany" or not

Either way they are great guns

Love mine! Shot several thousand round through it when I went to the law enforcement academy. No malfunctions and a great trigger.

Nice, for the price...I might just give one of these a try over replacing my M&P .40. I was underwhelmed by the M&P, not a bad gun but not a great gun in my opinion.

I fondled one at the gun shop but it didn't feel quite right. Maybe I was too used to my 229. Might also be a psychological thing about polymer Sigs.

    1) No, not all Sig sp2022 are made in Germany. Some are, some are not. And there are many mix and match (German slide with US frame). And they usually label so on the frame or slide.

    2) QC issues happens on all brands and models. I know at least one batch of sp2022 was trouble batch. And they were sold in sol Cal retail store called Turner's outdoorsman. But it was very small batch, and for those that notice reliable issue, Sig addressed and fixed.

Sp2022 had many configuration (with or w/o chamber indicator, slide finish, slide stop cut off location, size of grip that come in package...etc). As far as I know, there is no way to track certain serial number is "bad batch".

I have two, one was older model with Ilaflon finish and a later model with Nitron finish. I like them both but mid grip fit my hand better so I might let go one of them.

Ilaflon on top, nitron on bottom.

Hey guys... I ran across a Sig pro with a grip safety under the triggerguard... It looks weird!
