I was at the lgs looking around today and I was looking at a Sig 9mm from Germany and the guy mentioned how the US. made Sigs were not as good as the German imports. He mentioned that the rental Sigs (non German) were getting old and were not holding up as well as others. Is there any truth to this? Any personal experience? Thanks

  3. That's the Internet lore. The only Sig I've owned was a U.S. made one. Seemed just fine to me. Smoothest gun I've ever had, in all aspects. But it wasn't a rental that gets beat to heck.

You can't go wrong with a German made one though.

I owned an Exeter, NH, USA P220 for about 5 years. I wouldn't say I shot the snot out of it, but it at least had a few thousand down the pipe. It really was one of the most accurate pistols I've ever owned. After being a 1911 guy for so many years, I could never get used to the DA / SA trigger, so I sold it. No complaints whatsoever.

Having said all that, it is my understanding that the fella (Ron Cohen) that IMHO ran Kimber into the ground now runs Sig USA and is pulling the same crap. Much better at marketing than making guns.
  5. I've got a couple of both and haven't noticed anything major. I also don't shoot the piss out of them though.
  6. When I went in to my LGS to purchase a new American SIG P226 9mm the guy behind the counter fed me the same stuff about the German made SIGs being better and the reason being was he was trying to sell me a used German SIG P226 that was overpriced that he wanted to move. All of the internet BS and rumors getting spread has allowed the LGS to jack up the prices on the older German SIGs because some suckers are willing to buy anything the guy behind the counter is telling them or even worse something they read on the internet.

BTW, my American made "crap" SIG has functioned flawlessly for what it's worth.
  7. My W. German made P228 (#B108XXX) has well over 10K rounds through it, without so much as a hiccup. My U.S. made P226 has about half that, and has also been flawless.

    Sigs are Cadillacs....
  8. I personally don't care much for the styling of the latest Sigs. I only buy German models.
  9. I have both US and German and have not had a single problem with any of them. I don't follow the commendations of "most" LGS guys because of their lack of knowledge about guns. I had one tell me that CZ was crap?!?!?!

Sometimes it is amazingly easy to determine when something that started out as an excellent example of Teutonic engineering has been subjected to some Americanization...

Thanks for the info. I've used this shop several times in the past and I was ready to buy the US made Sig and so I walked out with nothing until I got all my facts straight from GT. Now the toss up is P226 or P229?

  13. SIG still makes an outstanding gun, IMO. I will say that they need to cut out the flashy, decorated models. Hell, they have like 50 versions of the p238 (rainbow, titanium, diamond plate, etc). Rather ridiculous. I wish they would stop doing that and just focus on producing nice pistols like they used to. A made in USA SIG is still a great gun.

I'll stick with the German SIGs, thank you very much.
  16. I have a German P226 (9mm) and an American P220. Have several thousand rounds through each with no failures of any kind. On close examination/comparison, there is no difference in fit or finish between the two pistols. The P220 is my edc and I carry it with full confidence.

Why not include the Trailside, the Mosquito AND the 556 series too? They're SIGs. Tell me how great these products are.
  18. My 2 year old US sig has 6000+ flawless rounds through it. Some of the guys I work with have 4x that amount with no issues other than an occasional spring replacement...
  19. You'll have people say the US Sigs are okay to go and you'll have people make them out to be worst guns they ever fired. Which side is true? We'll never know. While I imagine the US Sigs are probably good, I would go with the German made one if I had the choice.

My three US made Sigs have all been perfect. IMO the stainless slide and external extractors on the US made Sigs are an improvement.

The US made guns are fine, buy with confidence. I prefer to run grease on the slide rails, Sigs like to be run well lubricated.
