I held one for the first time yesterday. I really don't know much about them, I did do a little research on the web and it seems it is like every other gun out there, people love them or hate them! I would love another .223 but not in the AR platform, I have that covered already.

So talk me into it, or talk me out of it!

As the owner of a SIG 556, I'd say that unless you can get it dirt cheap, there are better guns out there. The quality of the fit and finish is simply deplorable for a gun that is branded as a "SIG".

Find yourself a used Daewoo DR200 and call it a day.

As much as it pains me to say it, This is one Sig that I would have to pass on. If it was one of their pistols I'd say go for it.

    As for this rifle.... :faint:

I really wanted one of these when they first came out. Unfortunately, the feedback on them has been decisively negative. $1,000.00 is a lot of money to put down on something with such a bad rep.

Let's not even talk about the travesty that was the one chambered for the 7.62 x39 round.

They look really cool, I just wish they'd get the bugs worked out.

You want to be careful with the early ones with that funny looking forearm.
The SWAT or Classic are good ones and worth the money.
    Pretty accurate as well.

I agree. They are very accurate and easy to control. They do look really cool! Both of the ones I had a chance to fire couldn't go two magazines without several malfunctions.

At first I had a plan to get one. That was before the bad range sessions. The person that had the ones I fires since sold them for a Colt and DD AR-15's.

It's disappointing that Sig would put something on the market that has so many bugs.

However, when they do get the bugs worked out of this rifle, I will be getting one.

(If the government doesn't ban them first!)

  12. mine is just under 10K in the serial number, earlier model with the fish gill fore end (changed out with the Swiss Arms part) and has not had any issues...

It's not SIG, it's that outfit in Exeter changing their name once in a while.
SIG Arms or now Sig Sauer does their beta testing through the customer and that is pretty much with everything they brought out in the past years!

I have older Sig 556. Flawlessly reliable, pretty accurate.

Sig is “AK inside” rifle. Bolt, carrier and piston are total ripoff from AK design, Some even call them “Best AK ever built”.

The bolt head and bolt are similar to the AK, after that it's different.
With the enclosed system and the recoil spring on the rod, I think the SIG 55X rifles are actually a lot better then the AK family.

Yep. Best AK ever. If you connect piston and carrier with charging handle and put it next to AK piston/carrier/bolt there is no mistake who copied what. The only real difference is the location of return spring.

Sig 552 is total AK knock of.

Have you seen the innards of the 552? About as close to an AK as it gets.

For the price of the SIG, it'd better be superior to the AK. At least with the cosmetics, anyway.

I have a Sig 556 Classic. So far I have not had any trouble. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it's front heavy, but I knew that going in. I like it so much that I decided to get a factory SBR. Now I'm waiting.
