SHTF sight use

Discussion in 'GATE Self-Defense Forum' started by longrangedog, Mar 11, 2011.

  1. Mas, What do LEO's who have been involved in shootings report regarding sights? Did they ignore sights and shoot instinctively, focus on the front blade, look down the barrel? When SHTF and the adrenaline starts pumping what part do pistol sights play?

Those habituated to use their sights and with a strong mental plan to do so, seem to do so successfully. The less that's in the training, and the more the officer is taken by surprise, the less that seems to happen. Over the years, NYPD's SOP-9 study, and studies by LAPD and Anchorage PD indicate a very high hit potential for those who are able to get their sights on the target to some degree.

One of the most controversial areas in the business, bro; you'll find lots of point shooting versus aimed fire threads archived here, with way more to discuss than will fit in the short-answer GATE format, unfortunately.

    best,
    Mas
