Should I trade a Ruger 1911 for a sig.

Discussion in 'General Firearms Forum' started by Glock_your_world, Aug 20, 2012.

  1. I can trade a Ruger 1911 for a West German sig p228 with a crimson trace grip on it.The sig looks brand new and in great shape. What you guys think should I do it or not?

I like 1911s, but the 228 is my second favorite handgun ever. I'd do it.

I let a 228 go because I liked the 2022 and my CZ75 Compact better, but, if you are a 228 fan and given what they are going for these days.....maybe. Check the wear on the frame rails first though.

So are not happy with the Ruger 1911? I have heard a lot of mixed reviews of it from friends. The one I put a single magazine through was unimpressive, but it was only a one magazine. The DA/SA Sig is a little like comparing apples to oranges, as well.

  5. Wow finally a hard choice(most of the would you trade this for that are super easy or super dumb trades this one is actually difficult) I guess id base it more on what do you like more and if you trade one do you ever plan on replacing it..in other words which will be harder or easier to get down the road if you wanted one a Ruger 1911 or a Sig 228? now if you of the mind that no, you just want one or the other just decide which you like more..the value in the trade is even enough and both guns cool enough that it comes down to(IMO) what YOU want more.

Most of the ones on here are more like I have 23 Glock 19's and my buddy wants one and he is offering a Sig 225 in trade should i do it lol...you actually have a interesting would you do this trade...congrats on a first in a while thinker :)

And do you have other 1911's and do you like the platform? if I had multiple OTHER 1911's that would make my decision to trade one that much easier..if this was my only one id probably keep the 1911.

The laser has no value to me whatsoever.

Does he have the stock grips?

  8. In what way was it "unimpressive" though? I will be looking for a 1911 to start rounding out my handgun collection(only 3 left a 1911, a single action revolver and a HKp7) I wont be looking at high end ones I cant afford that i will be looking at the lower mid range ones in theRIA(on the low end) to Remington,,Ruger,Springfield,Colt on the high end(between $450-750 or so including used obviously) since Ruger was on my list what did you find about it..Ive had in the past(colts) several and shot a bunch(friends, guys at the ranges) and the only ones I can say actually impressed me were the Les baer ones lol...and im nt in that zip code price wise :)

I don't know what you should do, but were I offered such a trade today, I'd do it yesterday.

Eh, sell the CT laser grip for $100, and buy a pair of stock grips for $10. Even better.

    Good point.
Also, check for barrel smileys. Lots of smileys = higher mileage.
Check the locking block's surface for shiny metal. Shinier = more mileage.
Many of these guns might look "like new" externally, until you take a closer look.

For one the grip safety was very loose, and to be honest, I like my Kimbers and range officer better. But it is a great looking, and a great value. It is made where I live by the way.

No the SR1911 is a decent 1911. There are LOTS of P228's out there. Make it a goal to get one later.

Send your Ruger SR 1911 to me and I will even pay shipping. That is at no cost. KEEP THE RUGER 1911. You will be glad you did.

I say keep the Ruger and save up for the Sig. They are both really nice guns. I'm liking the Ruger 1911 more and more. It seems to be a really nice gun for the money.

I'm not a huge fan. Good way to get some money back for extra mags and ammo.
