I have an old Glock 30 with an E series frame that is eligible for replacement based on the serial number. I'm wondering if there would be any negatives to replacing the frame. I assume Glock will also upgrade other parts as well such as the rsa with current parts.

Do newer G30's have ejection issues like some of the other newer Glocks (the 19 and 17)? This gun has always been reliable with all ammo and I'm hesitant to mess with it.

Was there a high failure rate in E series frames? I remember the Glock said they anticipated less than 1% of these guns would fail.

I'll be going to Atlanta soon, getting this frame replaced would be my excuse for stopping at Glock HQ, but I'm not really sure i want to mess with this thing.

Well I am guessing since you're g30 is an older model it doesn't have the light rail? If you sent it in they would set you up with a new one with the light rail. IMO I would send it in.

I am in the " if it is not broke, don't fix it" camp. I am not sure how long you have to get it replaced, but if there is no time limit, just run with it until you really need it to be worked on. A nice option to have IMO.

If I did not carry the G30 I would be in the don't worry about it until or unless there is a problem with it; if I carried it I probably would not risk having it fail when I really needed it.

You didn't say how often you shoot it...

I would get it done now, so I could enjoy shooting it now wihtout any concerns. The Glock 30 is one of my favorites, and frequently rides in my glove box when we go on trips.

I sent my series Glock back serveral year ago. Glock put all new parts in the frame. It came back looking like a new gun.

As I understand it, Glock had three machines making frame rails. One of the three became out of spec and produced rails without a radius that strengthened the design. I’ve heard that even if the rails break the gun will probably still fire. If it was my gun, I’d get the upgrade.

    Good luck!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. It was a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure I called Glock when when they first announced this and the gun is on the list. I just never sent it in.

I like the idea of having a rail. I'm going to call Glock to set up a time to drop it off.

Published failure rate was 1 in 18,000 pistols, which is unacceptable to Glock, hence the available upgrade.

I happen to have a E series Glock 23 purchased around 02 or so.

I probably fired 2 to 3 K and was in a 700+ round tac pistol class when one of the rear rails broke.

This was one of my carry guns. I was not able to detail strip the gun as I usually do directly after one of these sessions. I did so about a week later when I immediately saw the rail was gone. I carried it till then.

I'm not sure when the rail broke but the pistol never skipped a beat and ran the entire class without a problem.
Since I don't know, it could have been on the first round shot or the last.

Regardless, I believe the pistol would have run without the rail in place.
I did start using my G32 till Glock replaced the frame (IIRC it took about 10 days turnaround & most parts were replaced).

Since I am of the opinion that ALL mechanical devices can fail at any time, I would carry it or shoot it till it does. But that's just me.
