Should I get a Gen 3 G21 or a G21 Gen 4?

    I'm in the market for a .45, and am looking at a 3rd Gen Glock 21, and a Glock 21 Gen 4.

The 4th Gen feels better in my hand, however, I'm not up to date on the latest and greatest with the Gen 4 reliability, specifically the Glock 21 Gen 4.

FWIW, I plan on sending it to L&M Precision to have the RMR package done on it.

Please explain to me, the pros and cons of going one way or the other, in terms of getting the Gen 3 or the Gen 4 G21.

+1...I sold my Gen3 G21 and replaced it with a Gen4 G21. Best decision I ever made. The Gen4 is an outstanding pistol!

i have both and love both. if i had to choose just one it would probably be the gen 4 because of the newer features, mag. release, backstraps and frame texture.

Don't you just love people who make stupid comments in a thread that don't help in any way?

    I have some Gen 3 Glocks but not a G21. I do have a Gen 4 G21 and like it a lot.

I have been told without the additional backstraps the Gen 4 Glock 21 Grip more closely resembles the size and feel of a Gen 3 Glock Model 17/22. Is this correct? I have never seen nor handled a Gen 4 Glock 21.

Have you considered the 21SF RTF2?

This would be my choice as well if you can find one, followed by the Gen 4.

The Gen 4 G21 with no backstraps will be the same size as a Gen 3 21sf. With the medium backstrap installed it will be roughly the same size as the standard frame Gen 3 21. All of which are quite a bit bigger than the G17/22.

You know you NEED to buy one! I'd be all over it if I didn't already have a Gen 4 21.

    Decision made.

I went with the Glock 21 Gen 4.

Did a couple hours research last night, and couldn't find any reports of them having issues.

    Mine has a born-on date of 4/21/2012.

I'll be getting my Glock 19C slide back tomorrow, and as long as I like the RMR'ed Glock concept, I'll be sending my G21 Gen 4 slide to Mark at L&M Precision for the same RMR package I had him do to my G19C, however, I think I'll have the slide on my G21 cerakoted in either MagPul FDE or MagPul OD Green.

AI.. you know you can't just have a stock Glock!! I was looking at this thread and was waiting to see "OD or FDE" pop up.. I personally think you should go OD on the slide and FDE on the handle/grip

Congrats on a nice choice... I just picked up a Gen 4 17 a few days ago after going back and forth on 17 vs 19. I prefer the Gen 4 texture and shoot the 17 more comfortably than the 19..

Very nice man. Make sure to post pics of that 19C RMR as soon as you get it.

You made the right choice. It's all about that dual recoil spring, which the gen3s don't have.
