Should I buy a Springfield Operator or a Nighthawk

I am looking at either of the two.. I know the nighthawk is twice as much (or a little more!)

I would have to wait to pick up a nighthawk, or possibly wait 12-14 weeks to have one made....

And I don't know much about the Springfield Operator...

I kind of wanted a commander sized one, but I can't seem to find a Nighthawk or an Operator in a Commander size...

So... Nighthawk GRP, Springfield Operator, or should I spring for a Talon or possibly hold out for a Talon II...

This would be all purpose.. I NEED a bushinged barrel, I cannot have a bull barrel, since it is not allowed in the SSP class for IPSC, and I'd like to get back into shooting those matches. (This pretty much rules out the Champion Operator).

So, can I justify twice the price for a Nighthawk?

How are the Operators as far as reliability, accuracy, etc....

I've never shot a Springfield before... I've had Kimbers, Colts, Para Ordnances, and have shot Nighthawks, but never a Springer..

edit: If money were no Option, I would get a Talon II in black/sniper grey.. I like the serrated top slide, I like the nightsights, and I like the bushinged commander... But, money is sort of a factor.... Is it worth spending for it though? That's what I'm battling with in my head..
I also prefer to not have an aluminum frame... Locally, I cant find what I am looking for exactly... All the operators are lightweight, except a used one, which is the same price as new one at another store(and it's greenish brown framed).. There are NO Talons anywhere to be found... I did find an all black GRP I like for 2100 bucks.. Brand new..... But since it's not "EXACTLY" what I wanted, do I still spend twice the price? I'm afraid I wouldn't be happy with an Operator. (I could always cerakote the operator frame in grey I suppose... If anyone here in Jax does that I dunno..) Sorry to sound so random.. I'm just not sure which way to go..

If you're just going to pound the crap out of it in IPSC, I think the Springfield would be perfect. Maybe get a TRP or an MC Operator. The TRP is a great gun with more hand fitting in the important parts, but isn't so expensive that you wouldn't want to use it real hard. That's what I would do.

It does seem like an odd comparison.

Will a production Springfield satisfy you?

If not, don't get one, because you'll still want a Nighthawk. ;)

I know it's an "odd" Comparison.. I'm just trying to figure out if the extra money is "worth" it.... Heck I loved my Para even more than any more expensive 1911's I owned.

Bac, Is that a talon on the left?

The Talon and the GRP are a hard choice.. I feel like.. Well... if I buy the operator, I'll get it cerakoted, so once everything is done, I coulda spent an extra 400 bucks or so and got a GRP, what I really wanted!, or better yet, if I'm now buying a GRP, I could just spring a couple MORE hundred and get a Talon!

    See my predicament?

If you have the disposable income to buy the one you want do it.

I have a MC Operator. Love it. It can handle anything you care to dish out.

Should I buy a Buick or a Mercedes?

If you have the bug for a NightHawk, and can afford to buy it,
get it. It's a far superior weapon.

Get the MC Operator, i am not a fan of the dark chicken, I just couldnt justify that kind of money on a working gun when there is better available for less money

    What is the "MC" Operator?

I think the one I was looking at is just "Operator."

Its a Predator, which is a Talon, but with a special barrel with the blast shield. The Talon has the bushing, which is what you want.

Because you couldn't justify it, a production Springfield is better?

More and more I'm thinking that Springfield custom may be the best semi custom shop around.

Its just amazing what they put out, in my opinion.

    Yes, Dec 2010 likely :p

Since I am going w/ Armory Coat, maybe it won't be quite so long. My Custom Operator was hard chromed - and that added time to the whole process

I owned a Springfield Champion Operator. It was a great gun. Now I have all Dan Wesson 1911s. Commander Classic Bobtail, Valor, and a CCO is presently en route to my FFL with my name on it.

I can't recommend Dan Wessons highly enough. With that said, Nighthawks are fantastic pistols, and I'd love to have one someday.
