Olympic is **** from everything I have read. Rock River is a decent contender. Colt invented it, and I own a model 6951. I cannot reccomened it enough. The 6951 is flawless. The magazine to use is the MetalForms mag. They are pricey, but so is your life. The MetalForms are the OEM supplier to Colt, the only difference is the marking on the floor plate. I have tried ASC, and ProMag, but again they are ****.
I would particularly stay away from the Glock fed style lowers. The Glock mags are flawless, but the bolt system as well as feeding are rubbish, as well as the majority of the Glock lower suppliers lowers.

Sure as heJJ is NOT a cheap-*** plinker like the 9mm is!

So, NO, it is NOT better in EVERY way.

  4. Gotcha...

I was thinking along the lines of something to suppress and possibly hunt critters with or whatever.

The 300 AAC is pretty cool that way, plus you can build a 9in. AR that functions.

Hits alot harder than a pistol round too if I remember correctly.

A straight blowback 9mm AR isn't much less recoil unsuppressed.

    This.

Olympic is a totally different system with the ejector located in the upper, not the lower.

OP needs to decide if he wants a Colt Pattern or Olympic Pattern gun first. (Or seriously... just get a Colt Pattern)

I've put quite a few rounds through 9mm ARs over the years, and I really enjoy the platform.

In that case, yes you are completely correct. A 300 AAC is a heJJ of a lot more useful. A 9mm pistol or carbine would only be considered to be a range toy, FOR ME. It could have some defensive use is registered as an SBR.....IMO.

People rely on 9x19mm @ 1100 fps fairly regularly to stop threats.

An extra 300 fps only helps...

With my Dept. issue Colt SMG (RO992 model) , the Colt factory mags. (32rd.) run great. Never had any issues using them. They are the only ones we are issued for carry.

I called a couple shops today and they both said finding a 9mm ar is going to be tough to find. Does that sound like bs or is it a real concern?

They are not in a lot of demand.
You may have to order and wait for it.

A few years ago, I have to wait 2-3 months for my Rock River 9mm.

Try Buds Gun Shop, that is where I bought my 6951. It was in stock when I bought it too.

I just wanted to drop back in and say thanks. I purchased a RRA 9mm carbine this morning from Bud's Gun Shop. They already had several dealers approved to receive it so it seems to be a fairly easy transaction.

Congrats! That's what I got for my first 9mm AR too. It's a solid gun. Enjoy!

If you can, shoot a few 147gr subsonics through it (like American Eagle) and let me/us know if they stay subsonic.

If they do, I may sell off my 9mm pistol and get a 9mm carbine.

At current component prices, it costs me about $150/1000 to reload .223 (55 gr FMJ) and about $130/1000 for 9mm (115 gr FMJ). The 9mm would be about $124/1000 for plated bullets.

Powder isn't always easy to find but it's around. Primers are generally available at LGSs and bullets are all over the place.

The point is, 9mm is cheaper than .223, yes, but not by much!

As to recoil? I have no idea... But a 9mm blowback operated bolt of a mass similar to that in the Uzi isn't a 'no recoil' kind of gun. I would think that recoil in a .223 with a decent muzzle brake would be quite similar, if not less.

Sure can, as long as you don't try it on ARF.com.

Just got around to reading this post. I am interested in a 9mm AR and checked out Bud's. The only one they have in stock is RR model 9mm1222 it is a LAR-9. Is this the same model that you are talking about? If not is this model GTG?

Thanks I would like to buy one tmrw morning......
