I'm pretty much willing to be that neither of those gentlemen had CHPs.

Me thinks they just had their gats stuffed in their pockets.

Moral of the story: don't cut in line.

But seriously, cutting in line is something that annoys me. I will sometimes say something, but I realize it is setting up a possible altercation. Definitely a time for using karate skills and NOT weapons. Situations like this are one of the reasons I highly advise taking some kind of practical martial arts, hopefully a style that teaches real-world techniques and involves contact fighting. I'd rather go to jail for punching somebody than face life in prison for a killing.

    Wait....let me get this straight.

You think that folks should study martial arts so they're able to handle themselves during a "cutting-in-line" situation?

I mean really, "cutting-in-line"? Is that even a thing anymore?

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

It happens to me at least a few times per year. I am out quite a bit, what can I say. At that point, you can say nothing, or say something. It depends on a lot of things, but if I am late, or it has been a long wait, I'll probably say something. The chump almost always moves to the back. Other people usually chime in, in agreement when I say something. It annoys a lot of people. It is rude selfish behavior.

That said, if the chump wants to play tough, it is nice to have physical ability to defend myself. I'm not going to initiate any contact, but I sure as heck will fight back if the person takes a swing.

If your only line of defense is pulling a gun, then you're quite limited. That is why it is advisable to have other techniques at your disposal.

Or you can live life as a wimp, and let people walk all over you every time.

I have a feeling you're relating all of this to bars/clubs, or some other childish places.

Don't get me wrong, If I'm in line at Starbucks, and someone tries to take cutzies, I'll send them to the back of the line. But in the normal world outside of bars and drunk idiots at Riteaid, no one does it purposely. It's just a quickly remedied miss-understanding about where the line is, or who is actually in line.

Still no update on whether they were carrying legally or not. From the story so far it looks like one guy had pepper spray and a handgun. I'm going to guess he had a permit.

I can't imagine a cutting in line situation at Rite Aid where I would feel the need to pepper spray somebody.

When I took the class to get my permit, the instructor emphasized the fact that when you are carrying you need to take special care to avoid situations that could potentially escalate. This seems like one of those cases where one or the other could have easily said, "You know what, it's no big deal. You pay for your Preparation H first." Instead, one guy is dead, one guy is in jail, and the Brady campaign gets a poster child for gun control.

Darwinism strikes again. Glad no innocent bystanders were injured.

Both gentlemen had guns. Both got into arguments with each other. I thought an armed society was a polite society.

One has to know when to fight and when to not to. This "world is going to walk all over me" fear is a recipe for disaster. That leads to behavior such as road rage.
There are all sorts of reasons people feel slighted or wronged in public encounters. If you feel you need to rectify every issue, you now know how a criminal thinks before the crime.

It looks like they updated the story since this thread started. I just read it again and it looks like they added more info from an interview of Benn today.

I see the point of letting things slide and avoiding a big blow up over something that really doesn't make much difference in the scheme of things. But blatantly cutting line in front of me would be hard to bite my tongue.

People thinking they can walk all over other people because most people let them do it is a big problem in the world today.
There's way too much of this attitude in the world.

Respect. Is that even a thing anymore? Certainly doesn't seem like it.

    On the move ... again!
It is ... they conversed first (maybe not standard english mind you).

Maybe I am reading the article wrong but:

    "A" Guy cuts line.

    "B" Guy complains (says whatever).

    "A" Guy peppersprays guy "B"

Guy "B" draws weapon, and "A" guy draws his weapon.

Guy "B" asks guy "A" to "please put your gun down"

Guy "A+B" shoot each other (guy "A" falls to floor) ... does not sound like murder to me.

Did either have CCW permits? Did I miss something here? :dunno:

    Nice summary.

The one bit of info that's missing from the story is: What caused Guy "A" to pepper spray "B"? Did "B" threaten "A"?
If "B" did threaten "A" then close the gap between them before getting sprayed, then shot "A" then it is murder.

Edit: I think that the police would have reviewed store security cam footage before charging him. I think they found enough evidence that "B" was the aggressor.

"I would like to know if these guys were carrying illegally."

The last line of the article...

"Court records show that Benn has a concealed weapons permit."
