Sheriffs Can 'Inspect' Homes for Gun Storage under Democrat Bill
By Bobby Eberle February 19, 2013 12:31 pm

Is this just the beginning? Not only is Big Brother watching, but if the Democrats in Washington State have their way, sheriffs will have the power to "inspect" homes to make sure people are storing their firearms properly. What's next?

As reported in The Washington Times, the bill "would allow local sheriffs to enter homes of gun owners to ensure their weapons are properly stored."

The bill, pushed by Democrats, allows police to search where and how assault weapons are stored — as well as how safely they are stored, according to its text, listed in the state’s online legislative directory as SB 5737-2013-14.

The bill reads: “In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person in possession shall … safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.” notes that the Democrats are now backpedaling from their position because, "if enacted, the law will allow police to search without a court-issued search warrant the homes of owners of legally purchased firearms."

Sen. Adam Kline of Seattle, a Democrat who is described by the Seattle Times as “hyper-attuned to civil-liberties issues,” sponsored the legislation without reading the eight page bill. “I made a mistake,” he told the newspaper. “I frankly should have vetted this more closely.”

The primary sponsor of the bill, Sen. Ed Murray, also a Democrat from Seattle, condemned the bill subsection authorizing police to search homes without a warrant. He said the plan to harass and intimidate legal gun owners is probably unconstitutional.

What are these people thinking? Will they put together any left wing garbage bill as long as there is no uproar? Do we really have to be on guard 24-7 to make sure America is still America? I guess so.

These people have no sense at all. They are violating the freedoms that make us Americans, and even worse, they are doing it all in the name of trying to "solve a problem." Well, here's a message for those on the left, passing bills that make it harder for law-abiding citizens to possess firearms only gives criminals an even bigger advantage.

Simply outrageous, this piece of garbage should never come to a vote. It's seriously infringing upon the right not to have unwarranted search and seizure. They'll say no seizure but anyone want to trust some liberal Democratic cretin politician? I wouldn't.

The monumental losers simply don't care what the Constitution says, their ends justify any means.

Appreciative that this type of trash would NEVER make it out of committee in the TX legislature. Don :steamed:

If we don't allow them access then they can't enforce the law. If enough of us deny them the "right" to check, then they will just go away. If they start getting shot because they are violating the U.S. Constitution, it will get better!

Fighting back is the only thing that will change things!!!

I have a hard time believing Adam Klein's claims that this was a mistake.

    This from the ILA yesterday:

Today, House Bill 1588, legislation that could criminalize private sales of firearms and lead to handgun registration, was amended and reported by the House Judiciary Committee by a 7-6 vote. HB 1588 is now headed to the House Rules Committee before going to the floor of the state House of Representatives. It is imperative that you contact your state Representatives and the members of the House Rules Committee TODAY and urge them to oppose HB 1588.

too much. we should insist on the "shall not be infringed" of 2A and look to repeal the restrictive provisions of the NFA and GCA.

I WISH we could count on the DEMOCRAT Politicians to be "DEMOCRATIC",We can't and they're NOT.
  10. This was one of the reasons I moved out of Arlington County, Virginia fifteen years ago. A new police chief had come on board and wanted the authority to inspect homes where there were Class 3 firearms present.... how they were stored.

Sorry. No search warrant legally issued, no entrance onto my property.

    From my warm dead hands.
We're living in a upside down world, gentlemen, where the thugs run the government, and the law-abiding citizens are criminalized.

In WA, that part of the bill has now been taken out. If you read the original article in the Seattle PI the author of the bill said that it was intentionally put in there because he thought the bill would not pass anyway and so it was added to show where they want to go with the law down the road. Also, there were penalties for not allowing LEO into your home. Article didn't say what they were.
