"He really was changing his life. He loved his family. His kids were his life,"

There must be a Hallmark section full of these great one liner defenses for the criminally stupid.

"He really was changing his life. He loved his family. His kids were his life," Shaeena Deas said her voice full of emotion. "He would sit with his kids and help them do their lessons. He was going to church and trying to do what was right."

For the Win: "The store owner shot at Deas until his pistol was empty, police said. Then he removed a second pistol from his belt and shot at Deas until he was on the ground and not moving, the report said."

That's how you do it.

If you have to carry a gun, carry a backup.

Let's hear it for situational awareness!! Good guy already had is weapon out by the time the bad guy became an imminent threat.

Sounds like the clerk needs a better pistol for his primary, if he's emptied it and the threat is still present and oncoming.

    Just sayin'.

Oh give me a break. I'm so tired of the keyboard commandos that think they could do better in a situation like this.

The clerk did an excellent job. The article doesn't say that he missed with the first gun, it just says he shot until he was out. For all we know he could have connected with a few of those rounds as well.

Its obvious that he was trying to change his life. His life certainly is different now. One less thug on the street. Yaay!

If his kids meant so much to him then he should have set a better example for them.

I read all of the comments after the article. I get so disgusted when I hear people act like they are owed or entitled to something and think its okay to take from someone else and we should just look the other way and let them have it.

Shoot until they are not moving, that is how my LEO neighbor has told me to do it. Don't worry about round count, just neutralize the threat.

And it doesn't sound like his girl in the Lexus wanted to get out and help. She saw the light! About 20x's maybe?

Yeah the article does not state that he missed all shots with his first weapon, and I'm getting the impression he did in fact connect with some. Those rounds may not have immediately totally incapacitated the robber so after exhausting his primary he turned to his bug to finish the job, which was to make sure the robber was no longer moving and no longer a threat.
Considering he was also getting heat from the lovely getaway car driver I'm thinking he did darn well for himself to successfully supress the threat and emerge unscathed.

    Nice job!

    Ummmm...

I wasn't criticizing the clerk at all, and I didn't say a word about missing - you're reading that into my statements based on your own issues.

I'd assumed he'd connected with the original rounds, and for whatever reason, it didn't stop the threat. I suppose it would have been more clear if I'd said he should upgrade to 10mm, but I didn't want to advocate use of a WMD for self defense. :wavy:

I guess I'm really saying that if I emptied my primary weapon into an attacker, and it didn't stop the threat, I'd be looking at my choice of firearm/ammunition pretty seriously.

I'd go so far as to say that anyone who DOESN'T at least re-consider what they're carrying after an emptied pistol failure-to-stop is perhaps not applying the scientific method effectively.

I prefer to carry a weapon with good capacity, but can't argue with his results.

As far as shots fired, the final score is all that matters not the number of 1st downs.
