I was sitting in my office when I heard the unmistakeable sound of crumpling sheet metal. This is a fairly common occurrence at the intersection where I work, but this time it was weird and rhythmic, as if someone was bouncing their car off of something. I looked out and saw a V8 pickup slam into the back of a small car, propelling it forward, then accelerating and smacking it again, after which it simply floored the gas and pushed the car down the street, apparently not caring who or what he pushed the car into. No sooner had they gotten out of sight than I see the pickup coming back down the street in the opposite direction, followed by the car, which was wheezing and groaning from the damage it took. I went outside to join the crowd that was gathering, and as I was crossing the street a cop turned around and drove after the two vehicles, which by that time had gotten a ways down the road. About 30 minutes later I was on my way to pick something up at Home Depot, and I saw that cop, along with three others, standing in the parking lot of a local gas station. I stopped to see if they needed a witness, and one of them said: "Nope. It was a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. No other vehicles were involved, and neither one wants to press charges." I am AMAZED that no other vehicles were involved. Apparently the two of them had been mixing it up for about a mile, and he finally snapped and turned his truck into a battering ram right in front of my office. The cop said that witnesses told him that she gave as good as she got, slamming her car into his truck a couple of times as well. Demolition Derby... I thank God that he didn't push her into oncoming traffic (which was pretty heavy at the time.) I predict that one of them will be dead inside six months.
