SA Champion Operator?

Discussion in '1911 Forums' started by verdugo60, Mar 21, 2013.

  1. I am not ashamed to say I left the 1911 game for a while. I bought what to me was an expensive pistol at the time (as a college student), a Kimber 1911 carry model. I loved how it shot, felt, carried. I hated how it was never reliable enough for me to really depend on. Sold it and for the price of it plus $100 bought TWO polymer pistols, a G19 and an M&P 9 that have both been flawless.

I will be graduating this Spring and want to get back into a reliable 1911. I am not wanting to spend more than $900, still on a budget since I have a lot of expensive habits, like long range rifles and optics, golf, ammo for said rifles and a wife!

I am all but set on the SA Champion Operator, the Commander sized railed model. Will be a carry gun and double as a bedside gun with a light, thus the want for a rail. On other forums I have heard good things about these as far as fit and quality for that price range, wanted ya'll to chime in. Please don't suggest I just get a Wilson or Nighthawk, again budget! Thanks.

    Great pistols...........

  3. I've got one and really like it.

  4. Any idea where I can find one? They seem hard to find, is it because they are great pistols, not being made much or both? If someone has a line on one I would appreciate it.

  5. One Champion Operator listed on gunbroker.com. Price seems a bit high, but all firearms have been going for more lately.

    We trudge on.

Those light weight Campion Operators are rather difficult to locate.
Just keep looking,.....i wanted one a few years back, looked for months,
bought something different. Two days later a new one popped up in my LGS.

  11. I'd defend the house with that.

  12. I've had this one for a few years.
After close to a thousand rounds it went back to SA custom shop for the bobtail and the checkering
Two years later and shooting the crap out of it I sent it to Novak for action job, sights, hammer and refinish.
It likes the lighter weight bullets (185 grain) and puts 165 grain hydra shoks into one hole at an honest 10 yards. I love shooting this gun.

  16. Good price!! I paid 950 for mine.

  17. Unfortunately they got ONE in. And now don't know when the next one will come in. Thanks for the tip anyways, at least I got in on the email alert.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should look at other railed 1911's and get this one when it comes available in TWO years or something!

What do y'all think? Sig Sauer Tac OPS carry, Smith and Wesson railed E series...?
