I understand that in 1961 it had a standard barrel and in 1964 had a heavy barrel. My question is how to tell the differance ? Maybe diameter ?
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks,

  2. Well, yes, the diameter would be the difference but I don't know that I've ever seen a CM with a true heavy barrel. I'm not an expert, but they all pretty much have the same barrel conture.

    Let's see...1951 Combat Masterpiece

    And a 1971, 15-3

On the other hand, this is an example of a heavy barrel.

    13-2 from 1978.

This might not be any help at all, but if you look forward of the point where the barrel joins the frame you can tell the barrel on the 13-2 is straight, whereas the two on the CM's has a distince taper.

Thank you for your reply. I just don't understand why S & W said this year 15-2 had a heavy barrel ? any other feedback would be very welcome.
    Thanks,

Let's see if repetition helps. :whistling:

No need for a pic: All 2-inch Model 15s have the "heavy" barrel.

This includes the Model 15-2, 15-3, etc.

The 2" had a heavy barrel.

The 4" had a tapered barrel

The newer Model 67s with the two piece barrel has a heavy barrel profile, but again, it's two pieces.
