S&W 65-4 Question

    I just bought a S&W 65-4, it's a 4" stainless .38 w/ fixed sights. I'm unfamiliar with S&W's and it didn't come with the manual, is it safe for +P's? I wasn't looking for one but I got it for $250 in excellent condition.

    LOL, the 65 is chambered for 357Mag so I'd say Yep, +P 38spl should be just fine.:supergrin:

    Yes any stainless K frame .38 from Smith should be able to handle +p. Post 1957 IIRC is the transition.

    64-5 was a change in 1988 that included a floating hand and a hammer nose bushing on the 4" version. According to Mr. Supica's great book there were other changes until the 64-6 came out in 1998. I would be comfortable using +P in one.

    Ahh, in that case the the answer is still yep, K-Frame S&W revolvers can take all the +P 38spl you'd care to shoot through em'. Too dang bad it wasn't a 65, those are really sweet guns but still, the 64 ain't bad. :cool:

    The model 64 is my favorite gun to leave all over for home defense.
    The -5 is more than capable with +p ammo
