I took my Ruger SP101 .357mag and Single Six .22mag to the indoor range.

I used CCI 40gr jhps in the 'Six

Shooting was very good, great single action trigger on this one. I still struggle a little with horizontal stringing a little, but today not so much.

This load typically does 1450fps in the 6.5" Single Six

I have five Rugers, and would like to have an SP101 like yours at some point. How does it handle/shoot? Is it too large/heavy for carry?

The SP101 will going on a MTB excursion this weekend, so I ran some ammo through it.
I used Magtech 158gr SJHP and Federal 180gr Castcores (for critter country).

Shooting DA at just over 20yrds, both loads put them in there fairly tight...

Shooting rapid fire on the B27 up close (7yrds) and out at 15yrds did me good too, it's reasonably controllable with full power(ish) loads.

No jams, FTE/FTF or slide lock issues. It was a little tricky to speedload because of the factory grips.....but they work great for recoil.

I just picked up a Sp101 today! Looks just like yours.
plan on shooting it tomorrow! I'll be shooting my 357 reloads. 125gr GDHP with 9.6gr of Unique.

    Nice 22 you got there.

It's all you could ask for in a small .357mag revolver in terms of handling recoil and general shooting. THe trigger has some sharp edges that can be annoying for DA shooting, but the DA is really no worse than the J frame S&W with their coil mainspring.
I find it plenty slim enough for IWB carry, but too heavy for pocket carry...it's a belt gun.

I have not carried mine yet, but it feels great, appendix carry, in a Remora holster. Not much different then my SW 638 Airweight.

  7. Was there any limpwristing?

Or how about failure to pull the trigger?

Carried and Shot mine for the first time today.

I carried it to Wal-Mart in a Remora Holster that I have used for several guns. It carries well appendix.

I shot Reloads out of it, and it performed perfectly. I used a heavy 357 load. I could really shoot it well double action. After 50 rounds I had no problem with recoil with the stock grips.

Nice Berto. I've owned a few of the 2 1/4" SP101s. I'd probably still own one if it were a 3".

  11. I have been resting my two Glock mags for a couple of weeks and have carried the SP101 3". It is slimmer and lighter than the G30. I carry non-traditional, but it works bloody well for me. The SP101 is surprising easy to shoot full house .357 loads from, even with factory grips, but I did need some practice. My problem was my improper grip... live and learn. Loads are Buffalo Bore 125g, 180gr & Gold Dot .38 +p (.38s for indoor use, of course) :)

It has a softer reset vs the S&W guns, but I'm used to it.

I think I'm going to program one of my function keys to automatically write 'nice shooting Berto', should save some time.

I'm trying to find some guns that are harder to shoot- like the Nagant revolver, but ammo is hard to find.
