I have been thinking of trading my G19 locally for a 1911 but need to stick to something at a street value of roughly 700.00 max in excellent used condition.

So far it looks like maybe one of the following are likely:
    Remington
    Taurus
    Ruger

I have only seen the remington in person.

    No clue about the Ruger

.....we have been thinking about them for almost a year now. The search function will provide you with a few hours of good reading.

    enjoy!

IMHO the SR 1911 is the only one of your choices that is worth close to $700

Picked up a Ruger on Thanksgiving. I love mine. 300 rounds no problems with shooting cheap ammo. People try to compare them with hand fitted Kimbers but thats not what the Rugers were designed for. They are very dependable 1911's out of the box made from good parts. Made in the USA. I don't know anything about the other brands. My name is Marko and I love Ruger. I did pay more for the one I own. I got tired of looking for them and when Gander advertised them for $750 I went out and bought it.

The SR1911 is really good. I don't think they're worth over 650, but good for what they are. It's like the PT1911, they take a bunch of upgrades and throw it all together.

I don't have one myself (yet), but I have yet to see one bad review about this gun.

I was lucky. My LGS had the SR1911 and Remington R1 Stainless side by side and I got to play with both. Both impressive, think I liked the Ruger better .

Bought a SR1911 in September. I was impressed and bought another in October. I did put Eaglewings grips from Ruger on this guy. They are great for the money.

That says a lot to me. Hoping to finally get to see one in my area.

I own and have owned many different 1911's and for the price I am convinced you cant buy a better one. Mine has been flawless right out of the box and very accurate. As for the earlier statement about "a bunch of upgrades thrown togather" definately does NOT describe the SR1911. I also purchased a new Taurus Stainless 1911 when they first became avaliable and it is a really great gun, BUT, it's no SR1911 by any comparison. ALSO there is one on the EE right now.8:15 pm, 12/4/12 for 650 BNIB, never even had the slide racked. @5 bucks for shipping. Thats a total of $675.00 shipped. Thats almost as cheap as I got mine from a local dealer. Do not bleed for one. Ruger is catching up with demand and MSRP on them is only $799.00. Great pistol for the money and better than any I have experienced for the same price range.

I finally got to take a very brief look in person today at the Ruger 1911. I think it looked good to me, and felt like a solid, heavy pistol. I am impressed. What I didn't like was the 899.00 price tag.

That gun store owner is gouging. That's $100 above MSRP. I'm waiting til I can get one for sub-$700.

That said, now that a few days have passed, the SR1911 keeps pushing its way into my brain. I really want one.

After one year of searching for the SR1911. Was like looking for the Holy Grail.? Found one on line.& sent for it. It came out to apx $850 with shp & my FFL to send it to him. love this 1911 almost as much as my S&W 1911. I am happy with the fine job that Ruger did in their design of the SR 1911 gun.

Don't know what kind of requirements you have for a 1911 but I'd seriously consider a Springfield Range Officer. I've seen them for the mid-$700s and they have gotten good reviews.

Of your list, I'd do the Ruger over the Remington and especially the Taurus

When looking for my first 1911, I narrowed my choices down to these two. What impresses me the most was the fit of the RO. Both good guns, and I like the ss finish of the ruger. But the tight fit of the RO impressed me more so that's what I went with and I love it. Got mine for $740 otd from my lgs. That worked out to $50 more than the ruger after transfer fees. Btw, Kittery Trading post had plenty of them for $699 shipped.

The one with the green dot is a Christmas present for my son.

Was on a L O N G wait list at my LGS,,two(2) weeks after I picked mine up, they called and said had another if I wanted..I did. Like to do my Christmas shopping early.

We all know Ruger builds good stuff and stands behind their products. I have owned the brand for over 50 years and had to send exactly ONE [1] back for service in that time.

Not fan boy but am a loyal customer.

    Best.

I handled one at the gun shop yesterday. I was very impressed with it considering the price. Just when I thought I didn't need any more guns. Thinking about going back and having them hold it for me.

I have 2 Rugers and one of them is still BNIB so I decided to trade it. One of my local dealers says the RO wholsales for $690.54 and the SR for #535.00. I got a local guy here that wants to trade me a BNIB RO for my BNIB Ruger. Already owning and proving on Ruger I'mm gonna make the trade and see just how good the RO is. Had many Springers in the past and all have proven very well worth the money. I dearly love a stainless 1911 but haveing 2 of the exact same model just makes sense for me to trade.
