What is the differance between the RTF and the RTF2 ?

I am thinking of getting a G17 GEN3 RTF2 this Friday. They are priced lower than the regular finish and I have the Rubber Decal Grips on my Full and Compact size Glocks and like the way they feel. I handled the RTF2 and I feel I would like it and when carried it would not be touching my skin.

My G26 and 27 are carried next to skin during the hot summer months and I had to remove the Rubber Decal grips from them.

I believe the difference is the slide serrations, the RTF features the curved ones referred to as gills and the RTF2 will have standard serrations

The one I am looking at has the Gills and I think the tag said RTF2 (I will find out Friday). I thought maybe one finish was textured different.

They are the same thing. Rtf is just short for rtf2. It is the same.

The rtf finish will wear you raw right through you t shirt. And it will wear your clothes out too. And it may not feel that rough in your hand when your just holding it, but think about it under recoil thru 100 or so rounds. Just some food for thought. They are not for everyone. If you decide to get it than do it. Good luck man.

My 19 is an RTF2 with standard serrations, the grip did not bother my hands after 1000 rounds over a two day period, I think you need to do a lot of walking or activities to harm your clothing as well, however I would never recommend CC without an undershirt

I carry my RTF2 all day long on my waist with a wife beater on. Havent made a hole in any shirts yet. I can put 200-300 rounds through it in a range visit and not be bothered by it.

I put a Hogue grip sleeve on my G-22 RTF and it seems fine.

Be careful. Glock considers the standard Gen3 texture to be RTF. The sharp, aggressive texture of the RTF2 is often referred to (in shorthand) as RTF, but that is not good practice. The texture of the Gen4 is RTF3. I don't have any labels, but I'm betting that if it is marked RTF on the Glock label, it is a standard texture; if it is a store label, all bets are off as to what it might be.

my g22 rtf2 3 gen has gills, i have been told the differnece was that the rtf didn't have the new texture in the front and back of the pistols grips, not sure if that is true!!

It has absolutely nothing to do with the slide serrations.......Pretty sure the "original" Gen3 was "RTF" when it was first introduced.

Change your clothes more often & it won't wear them out. I've fired 2 to 3 hundred round per session with my G17 rtf2 and the implication that it's rough on the hands is hogwash.

All I can suggest is laying off the hand lotion a bit.

That, and maybe buying better quality clothing. I carry and shoot my G23 RTF2 regularly, and have never had a problem.
