What are VA's laws regarding the transportation of loaded (or unloaded) shotguns/rifles in vehicles? I found this:

    http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+15.2-915.2

but the last sentence seems to leave it pretty open. I don't know. It also refers to loaded, and not unloaded.

I was under the impression that if you want to carry a loaded long gun, it must be clearly visible. Could be wrong though.

Loaded long guns in a vehicle fall under hunting regulations and they vary from city to city and county to county.

Ok, that's what I gathered from the statute. How about unloaded?

Thanks for the replies. It seems like in a lot of the counties, nothing above .22 is allowed. I was thinking more like an AR in the trunk, not so much a .30-06 bolt gun.
