Revolver Guy Goes Glock

Hey guys... long time Smith & Wesson revolver collector and shooter. Finally getting into CCW, and while a revolver is great fun, they are not always the best carry choice for me.

Honestly, I never gave Glocks a look. As a guy who lusted after 1970s revolvers and their sexy lines, Glocks seemed like the antithesis of aesthetic cool. But by doing so I overlooked the one thing Glock shares with revolvers: unmitigated reliability.

I did my research and settled on a Glock 19. Found a local store that had two. Went down to fondle them, when the guy behind the counter started pushing me towards a S&W M&P9c. I gotta admit, the palmswell of their grip configuration felt really nice, and for about 15 minutes, I was paralyzed, second-guessing my G19 choice, thinking I really should go with what felt best in my hand (and thinking staying monogamous to S&W had a nice ring to it)... going back and forth, I asked the guy behind the counter what he carried. "Glock 19" he said. The same guy who is trying to sell me a S&W 9c carries the gun I came in for. I practically threw the S&W at him and told him to ring up the Glock.

Awesome choice. Loving this gun. Put about 600 rounds through it already. Incredibly accurate. An engineering marvel. So much easier than a revolver to clean. Begs to shoot 9mm all day (12 pre-loaded magazines go quick at the range!) What in the world is not to like?

So, I swapped in the M-sized backstrap from Glock, which combined with a Pachmayr sleeve makes it a good fit for my hand and a nice replica of the palmswell that the M&P9c had going for it. Put in an extended slide release today and thought I would snap a quick photo.

For what its worth, there are a ton of revolver collectors and shooters here as well.

I know I'm one of them. :wavey:

Great narrative and Welcome. Glocks are not perfection. Nothing on this earth is. If we chase perfection, we can catch excellence as the great Vince Lombardi once said. Glock has done a pretty good job catching excellence all things considered.

    Nothing wrong with the Glock.

Or the S&W revolver, for that matter.

Great gun. I have recommended the Glock 19 to dozens of people over the years as THE semi-auto to own if you're only going to own one pistol. I own several 'em all.
