I thought I remembered a thread on here a while back, but nothing came up in the search. Has anyone tested this load? I've shot it before and IIRC it was hot and had some decent flash. I don't remember wet pack testing it or can't find my results if I did. I've heard that this is actually a sleeper SD load that is pretty good. Does anyone have any info on it? Google wasn't much help. I think Remington specs this round at 1015 fps? I've been carrying RA40TA and have some PDX1 and 180 grain XTP in reserve, but I wasn't at all thrilled with the XTP performance when I tested it. It would be nice to have a Wally World SD load I can grab if the budget gets tight and I need to load up with new ammo... Even though the stuff has a shelf life of like 300 years. Just nice to have options.

Speaking of shelf life, anyone ever have carry ammo go bad? Get and click instead of a bang? IIRC sealed ammo lasts forever while unsealed ammo can get moisture in it over time.

I like that particular load myself. It's always been very accurate, plus it expands quite well!

I just read one of my posts from a while back. I actually carried this round for a short while. I said it worked well, but didn't post any data. Anyone have an actual test of this stuff?

The expansion looks very Hornady XTP-esque.

I wrote up a velocity test of some less-expensive Walmart defensive JHP loads in .40 caliber; was that the thread you were looking for? If so:

Just bought 2 boxes of this today at WalMart. Can't wait to run it through the G23 this weekend. 200 jhp's for $64 is hard to pass up.

That round from a gel test I posted some time ago was a Remington Express loading, not the lower cost UMC. I'd imagine the bullet is the same (but I don't know, since I've never used the UMC load and the Rem LE rep didn't bring any to a gel event I attended), and I don't know if it's loaded to the same spec's, velocity-wise.

The Rem R40SW2C was on the state contract here several years ago. (I was told the "C" on the end of the product code was added to indicate it met the state bid specifications at that time. The commercial offering uses the R40SW2 product code.)

I believe the R40SW2 load is listed at 1,015fps, but the round in the picture produced 960fps according to my notes. It was fired into a gel block covered by 4 layers of denim from a Sig P229.

I have some and like it. Not as warm as some of my reloads but seems fairly accurate and not dirty. I do like the looks of the hollow point.
