Just an FYI, the Sportsman model, with cheaper sights and a basic stock is supposed to be out in time for Christmas...street price is looking to be about $750. The Turkey is supposed to follow, good sights but the less expensive stock...street price of about $850. They all share the same receiver, bolt and piston system.

The Sportsman models are now available. The Turkey is just around the corner.

There might be some more models in the works, but can't say more than that.

More models out and more coming. I was contacted by Remington and have sent them some ideas and parts for a new model which I am very excited about, but I can't spill the beans.

My original VM ran 1250 rounds, out of the box, no lube, no cleaning, no failures of any kind. I am aware of one VM that would not run some of the lighter loads, but it is on the way back to Remington and they are taking care of it. Will get back the details when the owner reports back. The one I have set up for 3Gun took all the mods at once (usually not a great idea), put back together and ran 100 rounds of a highly mixed bag (2.5 dram 2.5" at 950 fps, to 2 ounce magnum 3" loads at 1650 fps) with no malfunctions or any kind.

  4. I've had a Versa Max (hunting version) for about a year now. Mostly shoot clays with it, light target loads and some pheasant hunting. I've put a couple thousand rounds through it. The only issue I had was when I switched to some high velocity hunting shells after a lot of target loads. It ejected but the brass on the shell was damaged/dented. Remington said to soak the ports with cleaning solvent for about 15 minutes and thoroughly clean the pistons (which I hadn't done for a long time). That solved the problem and it's been totally reliable since. Four rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger is no problem.

So the one VM that was having trouble split the chamber (for the pistons) at the spot where it is brazed onto the barrel. It happened early on and it still ran 3 1/4 dram and heavier loads even while it was broken. With two chambers and two pistons, even if one breaks, it still runs.

  6. Are barrels and feed tubes able to be changed to use one gun for hunting and a SD shotgun.?

Sure. Barrels are expensive since the piston and gas chambers are integral.

Nice looking shotgun. I don't like the BIG BLADE front sight on the 18 inch, standard stock version. Looks out of place or even like it could catch on something when you could least afford it.

Last year when I was looking for someone to trade a 21 inch barrel for my 24 inch barrel on my Benelli M1S90, I thought about trading it for one of the 22 inch VM's. I had an offer to swap out and really thought about it for a couple days, but ended up keeping my M1Super 90 and finally traded and got a 21 inch VR barrel for it.

Now that the VersaTube is out, there are several folks getting 26" guns, removing the stock tube and using the VersaTube for 3Gun/Tactical and then putting the stock tube back on for bird hunting.

The first run sold out, but there should be more next month. Remington liked it enough that rumor is they are going to put a VersaTube style magazine on a new model due out later this year.

Just got word that the Versa-Max 3Gun is pretty close. The product engineers will have it at the RockCastle Pro-Am end of the month. Ready to roll out of the box!

  11. I was told R12 in September by one of the LEO sales reps at the Rem factory - I'm assuming this is what you mean when you say three gun ...?

Actually, the Beretta 1301 Comp is a much nicer set-up ...

The 3Gun version is not the R12, which is the LE/Mil version.

Glad you like the Beretta, but how do you know it is better when you have not even seen or handled the new VM 3G?

  13. I've had the Versamax Tac, nice but - the gas system (Blink gas system, same as the Bennelli) more efficient and the shotty is lighter ...

More efficient, really? No thanks, I'll take the VM gas system anyday over anything with a polymeric wiper or seal. The VM system is just an improvement of the Benelli M4 gas system which is not only more "efficient" but more reliable. Benelli has multiple recoil systems BTW.

Not saying the 1301 is bad or anything, it is a great shotgun. But if we are going to discuss the platforms in comparison, you have to be honest about what the systems really are. The only actual test I saw still had the SLP cycling just a hair faster than the 1301...

  15. Look I'm not here to argue just stating my opinion, you don't need to dress me down, or beat me up with yours... thanks

No problem with opinion...it is the mis-stating of facts that I was addressing. I've been updating a thread on this platform and you come interject how the shotgun you like is better...you are here to argue and that is exactly what you did. Again, just be honest about it.

  17. Im hardly ever on here Bud, I am an FFL and as such have had just about every shotgun you can think of in my possesion at one time or another.

I have demoed all of them im not making up anything stating my opinion after shooting all... I suspect you've never laid eyes on a 1301 much less fired one. Im done talking to people who are opinionated such as yourself, best of luck with whatever you spend your money on its your choice.

So you only want to talk to people with no opinion or the exact same opinion as yours on a given subject? Well that's exciting..........:dunno:

  19. Stop for Gods sake Man... and you aren't argumentative... Holy Cow

For a guy that doesn't want to talk to people unless they share your opinion, you sure are chatty.

And your post indicates that you think my reply was from MarkCO, which it wasn't. I've not posted in this thread for about 11 months.
