Really depends on what you want. What are looking to do with the load? SD simulated, gun games? I have loaded a few different types in .40

Keep in mind the smaller guns have stiffer springs, so heavier bullets are easier to get right.

You're new to reloading and you're going to carry your own ammo?

I use a lot of Berry's 155gr. & 165gr. plus FMJ 180gr. I load them all with either Unique or WSF for all loads. I also like WST for target loads with the lighter bullets. These are loaded in G23 or Kahr 31/2" barrel.

180gr JHP, R-P brass, CCI #500 primers and Longshot powder. Warm to hot loads, Longshot doesn't do mild well.
Check out Hodgdons load data web site for loads.
I really like Longshot for the 40 S&W.

  9. As you have already been advised by a few.........WSF.....superb powder for the .40 S&W.

I have used it with nothing but a slight dusting in the chamber left over from a range session of over 150 rounds. All loaded with the following.....

    5.7 grains of WSF
    180 grain lead bullet
Fired from a totally stock Glock 27......including the barrel:shocked:.
    Yes, NO leading at all.
This load out my G27 at 50 feet will print 1 1/2 inches off hand standing.
My brass was all once fired. I used a Lee carbide die set to do all my reloading on a RCBS Pro 2000. I have had the press since 2002 if memory serves.
