Trying to think of a Christmas gift for my girlfriend and I remembered she was wanting to get into listening to records. We have a small apt, don't need anything big, just an entry into record players.

Looking on amazon, there's everything from $40 electronic ones, to antiques, to turn tables. Any recommendations from the audio files out there?

Wide range in capabilities and prices. Will also convert directly to digital. $100-$500

Edit: do a search for turntables and turntable reviews. Lots of good ones still being made.

I purchased the above turntable a couple of years ago for my daughter along with a relatively nice Denon receiver. She told me that she wanted a simple turntable to play her records. Me being me, I got her way better than a simple turntable. After she opened both Christmas presents, she let me down big time because she really wanted a simple turntable. I took the receiver back to Best Buy, but the high end audio place wouldn't take back the turntable. Now, it has sat in my garage for the last two years just collecting dust. If you have any desire for it, I will send it to you just for the price of sending it to you. This offer is only for you, the OP.

Don't know if Bang & Ollufsen (sp?) is still around, but they made the turntable when turntables were relevant. BTW, I wouldn't buy one today that wasn't at least USB capable as every time you play a LP you can burn a CD or store an MP3. HH

Do you have an existing stereo system that you can connect a turntable to, or do you want a stand-alone record player with integrated speakers?

How a out a sweet 25" console TV with the record player built into the top of the cabinet?

On a more serious note, good luck with your gift.
