I will be buying my next 1911 in the next month or so. I am looking in the $1500 dollar range and am looking at the Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson Valor and the Dan Wesson Guardian. Looking for thoughts and opinions. Or should I save a little more money and go with a Baer from CJ 1911 Heaven.

TRP is one of my favorites, but I would want it without the front end serrations. I never saw much use for them, and it seems nearly all the models in that price range have them.

I prefer the looks of the GI and Mil-spec models but wouldn't mind having a few "subtle" improvements. The fit and function of my GI is perfect, no complaints there, but the fit of the safety has always bothered me. Its really my only complaint.

Yup, I prefer to keep my hand to the rear when checking the chamber.

As a fellow FCS hater, I'd say wait and get a Baer CC. Whatever you do get it just like you want it. Unlike me with serrations on my otherwise favorite 1911.

I would say to go Valor or Guardian, and Guardian if it's going to be CC'd that much. I love my TRP, don't get me wrong, but the Valor has the kind of features that I prefer. I like bobtailed commanders, so the Guardian, IMO, is the best CC 1911 out of the 3 mentioned. Saving up a little more, not much either, and going with a Baer would be a pretty good idea too. Some hard choices there. Can't go wrong with any of them though. Oh, and BTW, if you ask them real nice, you can get a TRP without FCS.

Both the TRP and the Valor are really well built pistols. I just picked up a valor in a trade and the trigger is lighter. Fit and finish are both nice, but I like the aggressive 20 LPI front strap checkering on the TRP, The checkering on the valor feels a little TOO smooth for my liking. The Valor comes with some SLIM grips, which you may or may not like. The trigger feels lighter on the valor also.

I have the Dan Wesson Cbob and it is accurate. The grip feels better than any of my other 1911. Since they stop making this very well built pistol, I would consider the Vbob. Put one in your hands and you will love it. The maching tolerances on it are very close. Has several Ed Brown parts on it.

Take your pick, all are good choices. For me, I keep going back to STI and they have several nice options in your price range.

Go dig up an old series 70 Colt and send it off to Novak for work based on what you're looking for in a truly custom 1911. Forget the "Production" customs if you got near 2K to work with. It's worth the extra money.

Save up a little more and get the Baer. Great gun. You won't regret it.
