How about it? Can anyone recomment a good one? My sister-in-law is going to get her CCW permit. She is certian she wants to carry nothing more than a .22. After explaining that a .22 is generally not carried for a defensive weapon & why, but not unheard of, I recommended to at least make it a .22 magnum instead of .22LR. So, with that said, if she decides she is still set on a .22, what is a decent .22 magnum revolver? She doesn't want a semi-auto. Thanks in advance.

  3. I would see if you can rent a .22 Magnum and a .32 (or .327) Magnum.

The muzzle flash from a short barrel .22 Magnum is pretty disconcerting to most folks in low light. The .32 (or .327) can be loaded with lighter loads (.32 S&W Long) if recoil is here concern.

I have a Charter Arms Pathfinder with 4" barrel and at night it will light up the back yard.

They are both pricy BUT both well made and good feeling revolvers... The S&W 651 and 351. The 651 is discontinued but a excellent handgun. The 351 is current production.

As many recomend, Rimfires do not make for the best defensive calibers bacause do the rim fire ignition. In short misfires are common. NOT something to rest or bet your life on. BUT atleast in a revolver you simply squeeze the trigger again!

Case in point, my wife has no problem with recoil. It actually dose t even enter the picture. (The huge advantage of NEVER hearing X gun kicks hard!) she shot a 22RF in scouts winos ago but nothing else. I taught her to shoot. BUT weight IS a huge thing. The many hand guns she could choose she likes my air weight smiths best! Even my 651 is heavy for her to carry. But my little alum 9shot 22LR and m38 are perfect. She carries the 22LR and shoots that lil 22 the most! i load it with CCI sgemented ammo OR Aguila 60g. that little gun shoots well! And any misfires (and I always load a empty shell in a cylinder I mean EVERYTIME simply because I WANT her to expect one!! Then there is no fumbling muscle memory says squeeze again. I also work on her not shooting once and ceise fire. You shoot to stop the threat. Shooting means moving, constant back or side eyes on threat. Stopping shooting also means cover and a reload. Cover also means a reload, reguardless of rounds fired. Many of these things are good advice for all shooters but become even more important with sub power loadings like Rimfires

  5. Is it a good reliable shooter????
  6. It has been fine so far... I also have it's twin in. 22LR.
