Question about the 1911 in the military...

I have been watching the "Band of Brothers" box set. I noticed that the 1911 is in a flap holster. On the other side of the hip is the double magazine pouch. However next to the gun itself is a horizontal pouch (usually right next to the holster at the 2:00 posiition). Is that an extra magazine pouch or a field cleaning kit? I see it on a lot of the WW 2 shows and MASH a lot.

Thanks to all who reply as well as your service.

I believe the pouch you are refering to is a first aid pouch containing a compression bandage.

Yup. Old school first aid pouch.
