Friends son is consider doing 4-6 in the Navy, and i was wonder if SEABEE’s (MOS’s) or what ever the Navy Classifies their career as. What Field do the SEABEE’s have they would possibility land him a job out of service in civilian life?

<----------- Not a Seabee, but I had good friends in the service who were. They are A-OK in my book.

The Seabees motto is "We Build, We Fight!" The following link sends you to a page outlining the Rates (Naval version of MOS) that Seabees hold.

    http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navy/l/blconrate.htm

As you can see, there are simple civilian equivalents for all of those rates for a veteran seeking employment after service. With the usual added benefit for the employer of a young person who most likely will have far more discipline, experience, and situational awareness than his non-military contemporaries. If I was hiring young people to build in hazardous conditions, former Seabees would be my first choice.

Don't think he will make the Military, as I see JAIL or PRISON in the Kid future.

  6. Send him to the Marines.

    We will reform him.

  7. IMHO:

The Seabees and Navy Medical are the best way to go Navy.

Both areas offer professional skills and a meaningful experience.

...much better than being a cook or bean counter.

That's performed by the CMs... construction mechanics. Third rating in the top row of the link I provided in my first post.

    <------Is a Seabee, lol.

Not a bad place to learn a skill and to find out what manual labor is all about. Be forwarned, he will most likely end up in the sand if he goes to an NMCB first. He will build everything and anything, in the heat or under fire. We do a lot of Convoy Security Elements for different services (SUCKS).

Construction Mechanics are just that. They work on our heavy equipment.

I myself am a Builder. I do all vertical construction from framing to laying block and concrete. The thing that sold me was I never have to go on a ship and we get to play with most of the "cool" weapons. He will most likely find himself attached to a Marine unit, MEF, MEU or Special Operations forces building Forward Operating bases.

    It's honorable work.

Most Marines welcome the sight of Seabees, we build luxury items like showers, runways for their aircraft, strong back tents. We also get thrown in the defensive perimeter to stand watch. Saying goes, "never hit a Seabee, he may be the father of a Marine". Can Do! Hoo-rah!!

Any field they offer will directly lead to a great job on the outside. My seabee training has gotten me any job I have ever applied for. The Seabees is the best outfit (imho) he can get into! And like what was said before, we dont have to go on any boats!!!:tongueout:
