Site Description

quality of Romanian Aks

Discussion in 'The Kalashnikov Klub' started by >AdDiCtEd To AK's<, Jun 26, 2010.

  1. I got out to the range with my Wasr today.
    It functioned fine.
    As a single shot.
It would not strip rounds out of the magazine. It fired and ejected single rounds fine.
I had trouble getting the mag out, the release latch would not depress all the way without considerable force.
After about 40 rounds, and about that many times in and out of the mag well, it got allot easier.
I cleaned the barrel before I went to the range.
I will try and field strip and clean the rifle, then try again. I wonder if the bolt was not completely retracting after firing.
I was shooting steel case Wolf ammo.
    Anyone else have this issue?
Oh, and you can save the "well its Romanian, what did you expect" comments.
  2. Back to the range this a.m. with the WASR. Took the other mag that came with the rifle this time.
Shot like a champ. I only had 20 rounds left of 7.62x39 but all fed and fired without a hiccup.
Wonder if I should try to send the other mag back to Century. Maybe they will exchange it?

What kind of magazine were you using?
sounds like the tab on the back of the mag isn't seating all the way to the selector stop when inserted.
Could be that one mag is slightly longer from back to front.
Filing a tad off of the inside back of the magwell could solve this issue or you could just stick with mags that work in that rifle.

I am the process of buying a ROMAK from some one on another forum. From the pictures it is nice and has the dimples at the magwell. He has put a std stock and pistol grip on it and it has a nice duraKote finish. Anyone here own one?

I have a SAR-1 and a SAR-2 and they are both great rifles - never had a hiccup with either one and they the SAR 1 is 4-5 MOA and the SAR-2 is 3-4 MOA.
  6. I have had a SAR-1, SAR-2. several WASR-10s and a WASR-2. All worked
100%. IMO they are a bargain.

My WASR has been 100% reliable, despite having a canted gas block/sights. Those arent too hard of a fix, and the mag wobble is an east JB weld fix as someone posted earlier. Back when AK ammo was real cheap, I used to rapid fire 4-5 magazines through it and the wood handgaurds would start smoking, it still ran like a clock. It's a good bargain AK if you don't mind some tinkering, or you might just find one without said problems.

My nephew bought one,It was his first ak. The mags would not fit right and the sight and gas block was twisted.I ended up fixing it for him and it works now but the wood smokes and when it does, it stinks like a dead horse.

Least they could do is make the wood smell good while its burning.

Romanian AK's are great guns, Century it the issue here. They suck!

I have still picked them up though. Just look over it before you buy it. I've never had an issue with mine.

I looked for one at Buds the other day, and couldn’t find one. Looks like I didn’t use the correct search words on that site. I see them online at plenty of places for under $400. I hope to get mine ordered within the next two to three weeks.

I just ordered a gun from Buds a couple of days ago. First time I’ve ever seen a site that charges more for using a credit card. They prefer Cashiers checks or Money Orders. Only way to get the advertised price, but it was a significant savings. It was my first online purchase of a gun, and I’m learning that’s common practice for selling guns online.

I had to adjust my WASR mag wells a little bit to get my magazines to fit. I knew there was a problem with the gun itself when 12 magazines were giving me problems. But it was a super quick fix, and it's very snug.

My Yugo M70 was worlds better quality. I will probably get one again. But for the price the WASR is awesome.

My Draco still needs some work...but should hopefully work fine down the line.
  15. I got a SAR-1 I picked up in Feb' 2010 for $232.00 out the door and it has been 100%. Had to get some better laminate furniture for it though.
  16. BTW, I bought mine out of a rack of 1/2 dozen or so because the receiver is stamped the same year I graduated from H.S. and met Mrs. Norton

I have been reading reviews on the century arms wasr 10 and not too many people are having problems. Has anyone on here bought the romanian ak from classic arms? I think it is a century arms wasr.

My ROMAK 1 I bought off Shoots good fairly good fit and finish. Not as good as my Arsenal but about 1/3 the cost.
