I have read the extensive reviews here and at kenrockwell.com . I have noticed he and many others have great respect for the d40.

My question is; i have found a used version of both

    1. A used d50 that is a few years old with : nikon 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6g com with impact battery charger
    sandisk extreme 3 133x 2gb SD disk
USB cable included, JowPro TLZ case.

    For $385

    2. I have found a near new d40 purchased a month ago with the same 18-55 lens.

    $375

I am not sure how wear and tear is on cameras, would i be better off going with the d40?

Thank you very much for any insight, i am purchasing this as a 5 year anniversary present- any help is greatly appreciated!

The D40 is a better camera for low light. It's on the verge of being discontinued. Snap it up and don't worry.
