The three above come in close to the same price. I think the RIA Tactical maybe a bit less.

If you have the direct experience to do so, please list in order you would buy them.

    Thanks.

(this is for a friend with about $600 to spend)

    1. RIA Tactical: Lots of quality features & finish options right out of the box, a decent mag for an entry 1911, & in my experience, fed all types of ammo (including SWCs). I often rec this 1 for new or 1st time 1911 owners. 1st time buyers seem to feel like they did well/got a real bang for the buck when they compare 1 of these (especially the 2 tone) to what else is out there at the entry level.

    2. Taurus: Lots of hit or miss on these models. On my friends gun, the right side ambi saftey came loose. A big no no for me as I'm a Southpaw. The finish fades quickly. Seemed to only feed well w/ball ammo. I'm sure a mag switch could help w/this, but I didn't want to reccommend spending the $ on upgrades, etc on something I had a feeling wasn't going to work out in the long run. He now just keeps it as a 'truck gun'

    3. Remington R1: I have to give this a 3rd place simply because I've fondled, but not shot 1 yet. Quality, fit & finish seem fine, enough to bump it easily ahead of the Taurus, but again w/out trigger time I won't qualify to comment on that aspect.

I have all three, or at least theoretically. The RIA Tactical is basically the same gun as my Charles Daly EFS.

I don't have any rounds through my Remington yet, but I've heard nothing but good things from the range reports on it. It is a quality gun.

From a build quality standpoint, I'll say Remington first, RIA second, and Taurus last. The Taurus is a POS in my opinion.

The thing is the Remington is not enhanced like the RIA is. What does want to do with it? :dunno:

What happened with your Taurus. I saw you don't like them but I didn't read why.

Very poor quality parts and fitting that's even worse. My ambi safety fell off for one. However, the whole gun is poor from the finish to the "checkering", in my opinion.

I'm with MD, I'd say the Spartan or the Remington in that price range. I put a few magazines through Quack's R1, and it was awesome.

i would look seriously into the STI Spartan. The RIA and Rem are decent options, but i share the same feelings as bac on the Taurus. My experience with the Pt1911's is that they always shot for me, but fit and finish were extremely subpar. Im sure the Stainless PT would be an improvement in the finish department though
