Problem with XP desktop

    My friend was deleting some extra junk off her computer. Apparently she messed up something in the process. Her computer boots fine up to the point that you get to the desktop. After that, the background picture is shown but there are no icons or tool bar at the bottom. You can open up task manager and start an application manually without a problem. I noticed the explorer.exe was not one of the programs running in task manager. I tried to open it up manually and it would not work. I'm just trying to find a way to get her desktop back up...any help is appreciated.
