I had it stovepipe 3 times and I think it was from limp wristing, I'm a new shooter. However, today the slide didn't stay locked back after the magazine was empty. What could cause this?

    Limpwristing.

Think about it. The slide is short stroking. Its coming back just far enough to clear the chamber and then returning home in time to catch the newly ejected cartridge.

This time, it went back far enough to eject the cartridge but not far enough back to go to slide lock. When it returned forward it didn’t catch the cartridge

ah yes, also I tried holding the gun when it's unloaded and if your thumb is on the slide release it doesn't lock back when there's a mag in it.
