I wouldn't have opened the door at 130am. If someone is at my door that late they better be one the phone with me at the same time.

I love the Lt's quote along the lines of "point a gun at police expect to get shot". He was answering his own front door, they did not ID themselves.

And yes, I am aware the victim had priors. But we still have The Castle Doctrine.

Who opens the door with a gun pointed at the person. That's just rude.

Cops need to figure out better ways to apprehend perps. These bad killings suck.

Which makes me wonder if the deputies are telling the truth. Maybe the guy just had the gun by his side, not pointed at the cops, and they just shot him anyways. Then what are they going to say? They are going to say the gun was pointed at them. Yeah, right.

No proof he pointed the gun at them.

Having a gun in hand at 1:30 AM seems logical if you are going to open the door.

I imagine the police already had their weapons drawn and ready.

Sure the tenant had a right to bring a gun when answering his door.

And sure, the LEOs who believed a suspected murderer was inside the apartment, and was confronted by a man-with-a-gun, had reason to fear for their safety.

Just like the Castle Doctrine/SYG, LEOs responding to a 9-1-1 call do not have to wait until they take a bullet before responding.

Please tell me that is not how they picked which apartment to knock on at 130AM.... I lived in a lot of apartments age 18-22 and I really hope it was the closest door to the cycle was not the decision point.

I've always heard detectives advocate making appointments to have the BGs turn themselves in. Usually around 9:00 or 10:00 am, like ladies and gentlemen.

    No, I'm being serious.

They may have been looking for a wanted suspect, but all they did was knock on the door and like a moron, the homeowner came to the door pointing a gun at deputies. Of course they're going to take action when having a gun pointed at them.

Anyone can walk up to a person's front door and knock on it at any time of day or night. An idiot answers his door pointing a gun at an unknown person, who may be a person in need of help, or in this case, deputies capable of shooting back.

I don't know about this person, but I have outdoor lighting and porch lights. I hear my doorbell ring and I look outside before opening the door. If this had been done instead of blindly pointing a gun, it may have been noticed that there were uniformed deputies at the front door.

Over the years, I have been sent to a few calls that because of the caller's mistaken information have ended up in mistaken addresses. If I had been greeted at the door by somebody pointing a gun at me, I would have taken action too.

We send a certified letter with 3 dates/times listed and ask the perp to pick out the one best suited for them......

Did not identify themselves for safety reasons...

What is the reason for that? If the person just has to look out the window and see uniformed officers not like you are being stealthy or undercover.

No proof that they did anything other than knock on the door.

Problem is, people read an article and "imagine" all types of senarios.
