It's perfectly pleasant in the hands of a trained shooter whether from a 22, 23, or 27. What I find lacking in the 27 is that it's so short that I personally have a problem with a fast draw from concealment. Getting the weapon out isn't a problem. Getting it out already in a proper grip from beneath cover garments is a challenge for me.

  2. I seen a few posts like this before I bought my 27 but most of the posts were positive so I bought one. I was surprized how well it shot, so was my wife. I do know shooting the .40 with different loads can make a big difference in recoil. although some may have a problem with the 27, for most people the 27 is easy to shoot well.

  3. Glocks don't pocket carry. Not really meant for that

  5. Well, everyone has their own opinion and I respect yours, but I've been carrying and shooting a 27 for several years and I don't find the recoil to be uncontrollable or unpleasant at all.

This. I pocket carry my 27 quite a bit for quick trips. The only thing I have noticed about my 27 is I shoot it very low compared to my 19/23/17/22.
  7. I like both .40 and .357. I have carried a Glock 27 since 1997, and I still do when the smaller size is needed. But I'm in love with the Glock 31 Gen 4 I obtained a year ago.

IMO, the .357 is one of the finest auto-pistol cartridges ever made in terms of muzzle energy and reliability of feed (from the bottleneck design). As important to me is the much tighter chamber with full case support above the feed ramp on the .357 Glocks. The .40 chamber rear is about 0.005 inch wider than that of the .357. The round may be easily rocked back and forth with considerable travel in a Glock .40 chamber. Add to that the unsupported case above the feed ramp...well, I'm just much more comfortable with the tight supported chamber of the .357 chamber compared to the loose unsupported .40 chamber.

But I still love to shoot both. I use Underwood 125g JHP in the Glock 31 for serious work, and Georgia Arms 125g JHP or FMJ for practice.
  8. I pocket carry a G27 in an Uncle Mikes #4 every day. I never leave home without it.
Being a civilian now, I am not concerned with quick draw. The element of surprise will do just fine.
As to the OP, I think it is well established that a .357 out of a very short barrel is basically a .38 with a lot more flash. A .357 out of a short barrel is NOT better than a +P 9mm such as GoldDot, or even std velocity Ranger SXT.

As to the G27 being a beat, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

When I retired I also retired my G19 and G26 in favor of the G23 and G27, and there is LESS FELT RECOIL, and I shoot both much better.

Now our service ammo was the 147gr JHP, and probably a heavy bullet recoils more, BUT...

I use Winchester 180 JHP Bonded in the G23 and G27, and it is a *****cat to shoot.
I requalify for HR 218 annually with both guns, and it is a breeze. Everything goes right where I aim.

I just don't understand the complaints about recoil in the .40.
  9. So you are saying that the G23 G27 has less recoil than the G19 G26??? Interesting:dunno:
  10. To me, YES.
The 9mm is "sharp" and the .40 is a "push".
  11. I pocket the G27 in jeans occasionally. And take it from me, it's a PITA. I'd rather go with a Smith 442 with 5rds of .38+p if I had to pocket carry.
