Placement of Red Dot Sight

Discussion in 'Sights, Optics and Lasers' started by Hicksville Kid, May 11, 2011.

  1. I've been using my G34 for a few months with a Burris FF II red dot with a standard mount in the rear dovetail. It works great and the whole set up is easy and nice looking.

My question is: Is there any benefit to mounting the red dot further forward?

I've looked at many pictures of race guns and other guns with red dots and I see that many of them have the red dot mounted in a rather forward position on the gun. Is there a benefit in target acquistion with either position? Here are a few pictures to illustrate. First is my setup and later a link to a GT picture thread which shows the mounting further forward.

I would appreciate any input. TIA
