I developed a sudden interest in getting a pistol grip only stock for my 870 and thought I'd start the topic. Who has one, what model grip do you have and what's your experience with it? Years ago I tried the Choate PG and I remember it hurt my hand. I didn't like it and I think I threw that grip in the trash. Few years later I saw a Pachmayr PG and forend so I tried it on my 870 and it's been on that gun since then but my brother found a liking to and I haven't seen it again! He takes it camping for bear protection and that's mostly what my intention was for it so I'm happy he's getting good use from it. Gladly he's never had to use it! I once again got the bug for another PGO stock so this time I ordered a Speedfeed pistol grip. I read that users report that it's design does a better job of managing the recoil...we'll see after it shows up! My purpose for wanting a PGO stock is for the compactness and manuevrability it will give my shotgun. I used a PGO stock off and on for years and my experience is that they can be dangerous to the shooter if he's not trained to use it. I've seen a shooter get a mouth full of recoil and need stitches on the upper lip to repair the damage. Most of us instinctively raise the barrel to sight the bead or line up the sights but with a PGO stock you need to be aware of how you are holding the gun and the effect the recoil will have once you pull the trigger. Keep that in mind and you should be able to manage this type of gun. If you have a PGO stock on your shotgun I'd love to see some pics. Thanks, Seamaster Wanna kill these ads? We can help!
