I went to my local gun shop today in search of some nice mags for my 1911. I asked the owner of the place what was the best mag he stocked in 8rd for my baby. He gave me the 8rd Chip McCormick CMC Mag. He is a big Kimber fan and he will only use a 1911 Gov't size as his EDC. So that sure says something for us 1911 fans. He literally has 100's of Glocks, SIGs, Berettas,FN, etc..but a .45 1911 , in Kimber flavor, is what he trusts his life too.

So what is the y'alls experience w/these CMC Mags...oh I am sure I overpd as his shop is notoriously over prices. I pd $30 for it.

10 round CMC power mags are great and no problems. Buy your mags at Midway and look for when they go on sale. 8 round mags CMC are ~$20-25.

For $30 I hope it is a Power Mag and not a Shooting Star. CMC stands for Chip McCormick Corp. The Power Mags are very high quality.

Rinny, with my new S&W 1911, I got two "S&W" mags that are actually Act mags. Then I bought four additional CMC Power Mags. All have worked flawlessly.

I'm currently looking into Tripp Research mags for my Valor and Performance Center .38 Super.

    What do you think? :)
  5. if you decide to buy more Chip McCormick mags you can always order online next time $19.99 for stainless and 16.99 for blued from midway usa (probably other cheaper places online but just giving one better option than $30)

as for quality i currently have 4 CMC mags (3-SS 1-Blue) for my Colt 1911 and they have never let me down so i can say im happy with them.
  6. I've got McCormick Shooting Stars as well as the factory shooting stars that came with my Colt's and never had any probs in several years and thousands of rounds fired. They're the only one's I'll use in my 1911's personally.

    Muskogee Ok.
I used to have a Chip McCormick Power mag, it was a good mag for sure. Whilst they are a top notch mag, from here on out I am gonna trade with Tripp Research when I need a mag. They are awesome mags and Virgil Tripp is good people:supergrin:

Never met Virgil, but I've heard he's pretty cool and his products are top notch.

I think I like the Checkmate almost as well as the Cobra mags and they are close to ten dollars cheaper. I'm not positive but I think they both use Wolff springs which probably has something to do with why they work so well. You can order the Cobra spring and follower replacement kits as well. Here they are side by side.
