I can't remember because I've had a NC CCW for about 10 years now and I haven't sold a rifle in this state only handguns. But if I'm selling an AR15/rifle to my sons friend does't he need to get a permit from his local Sheriff's office to keep it legal. Someone told me this only applys to handguns.

  2. only applies to handguns. Rifles require no permits.
You may consider a bill of sale for you records with the serial number though.
